The Evictions have begun. The backlog of nonpaying tenants are being removed from the court's 'cue'. How will this affect you?

For #314day, I figured it would be appropriate to share the history of one of the city’s most iconic symbols, the apotheosis. Plus, some background information about the founding of St. Louis.

Happy 55th birthday to the St. Louis Arch! The Arch was topped off 55 years ago today on October 28th, 1965. The idea for a memorial on the St. Louis riverfront... began in the 1930s when Luther Ely Smith decided that St. Louis needed a better looking entrance to welcome people into the city. He went to mayor Bernard Dickmann, and they pitched the idea to the National Park Service for a monument to westward expansion. The historic riverfront was demolished in 1940, as the warehouses made way for the memorial. After the end of World War II, a design competition was held to determine the design for the new memorial. The winning design was Eero Saarinen’s Arch, which was a catenary curve that was both 630 feet tall and wide. The construction of the arch did not begin until 1963, after Saarinen had died. Over the next two years, each of the 42 triangular stainless steel pieces were put in place, and on October 28th, 1965, the final piece was placed in the arch. Today, the Arch is the internationally recognized symbol of the city of St. Louis, and people from around the world come to see it. See more

Do you remember the Admiral? It was a long-time riverfront attraction in St. Louis but shut down in 1979. (P.S. What's that person doing up there on top of it?) #WaybackWednesday
