Meat by itself will not kill you, unless you choke on a hunk of it. Let's bake up a tray of bacon and consider this: "In fact, countless studies have been conducted by cancer and medical experts and they have all determined the same thing: No one food can cause or cure cancer. But that hasn’t prevented IARC from deciding otherwise. This conclusion isn’t mine alone and you can evaluate the information for yourself." That's a fact, Jack. There's no one food that will kill you, ...and no one food that will save you. Eat, eat well, eat heartily, eat meat if you're so inclined. (for those who'd like to read more: http://agriculturalwithdrlindsay.com//processed-meats-and/ Thanks to Lift Big Eat Big for posting.)
Have you signed up for Eating 101 yet? That's the class I'll be offering this fall at the ARC. It covers the basics of good nutrition, and takes the crazy out trying to learn about how to eat. It's an 8-week course, but there's the option to sign up for individual classes as well. Stop getting dragged down by information overload, hearsay and bad science---come to this class! Call the ARC at 573-874-7460 for more info, or check out this quarter's Leisure Times issue (page 31). https://flipflashpages.uniflip.com/2//3554/pub/html5.html
Why typical weight loss strategies don't work: 1. If you reduce the amount of food you normally eat, there will probably be some of the desired weight loss...at first. 2. However, with continued, chronic undereating, your body eventually consumes (catabolizes) its own lean mass (muscle). 3. When you decide to eat normally again, your body doesn't need as many calories...and what *should* be a normal amount of food ends up being too much. You don't have as much lean mass to... feed anymore! 4. You gain fat weight instead. 5. At this point, most people panic, and start undereating again, starting the whole ugly cycle over again. What's a more winning strategy for permanent, sustainable fat loss? 1. Eat just enough. Protein, veggies, carbohydrate (yes!) and fat (super double yes!!) at every meal. 2. Any exercise is better than none at all, but resistance training (whether it's bodyweight, resistance bands or weights) is the way to build muscle. Doing all cardio, all the time, doesn't do that. 3. Sleep 7-9 hours a night. (Muscle can't grow without proper rest.) If you don't sleep well (snoring, apnea, insomnia), your body's ability to recover from your exercise is hindered. Not sure how to do that? Pm me for a consultation. Meanwhile, here's a great article that discusses this idea in detail. Read on. http://www.bengreenfieldfitness.com//diet-myth-news-flash/
Don't fear your food! If you're an active person, you need enough calories to support your activity. And if you're overweight, it's true that you probably need to eat less---but you still need enough energy to function. Not eating enough can have its own set of consequences.
