Ideas for your Lenten season. 1. Read the Bible every day. Five minutes minimum. There are many devotional guides to help with this. A simple one is to read these chapters. They focus upon the last week of Jesus' life and the resurrection appearances. Mark 11-16, Matthew 21-28, Luke 19-24, and John 12-21... 2. Spend time in prayer. Two minutes minimum following your reading. Express to God your concerns and your hopes. Name your blessings, and give thanks. 3. Take action. Bible reading and prayer are two ways to become closer to God. Being near to those whom God loves is another way. So, each day, take action. Call or write someone who needs to hear a word of encouragement. Show kindness. Collect money to help those in need (food, shelter, support). Become aware of the needs of the hungry, the isolated, and those who are suffering. These are ways to hear God's voice more clearly. As we do that, we grow closer to God and are able to remove the obstacles and distractions in our relationship. Our faith will be renewed and we will find joy in serving others, too. Lent can be for us a very meaningful period of time to prepare for Holy Week and Easter. May God bless you in this season of reflection.
