Our city is known for many GREAT things! The highest child murder rate in the country is not one... At this time of day exactly one week ago, a 14-year-old was shot and killed close to our West End tutoring site. We did not know this boy, but we grieve with his family.... Just a few days after the shooting, this former tutor was visiting St. Louis for the day and was able to tutor her former student, who was thrilled to reconnect after many months apart. We are by no means saving the kids in this neighborhood, but, by God's grace, our presence means something. We see them. We love them. We tell them about God who is a refuge in times of trouble.

I think A* is a great case for how a person doesn't have to be having trouble academically and/or at home to profit from FFT. He does well in school, his parents are wonderful and utterly devoted to A* and his brother, etc. Things are pretty good. Yet the simple fact of Christians who enjoy him, spend time with him, encourage him, etc.,--this can also bear fruit. Just as children aren't one-dimensional, neither are their needs...and neither is our ministry. - Mike, a tutor * First initial only
