Did you know that Steiff doesn't just make teddy bears? The Santa, sleigh, & lighter hued reindeer in this image are a collectors edition set called "Friends of Christmas." Only 6,000 of these were crafted between 1989-1990. Renny, the reindeer on the left is older, & based on the chest tag was made after the 1970s, it is most likely a replica of the 1950s version given the limited number originally created. #FunFact #funfactfriday #facts #Reindeer #Santa #steiff #teddybear #StLouis #STL

For this fun fact Friday we found some interesting information on wind up toys from the PBS website. "The first modern wind-up toys were made in Europe during the 15th century for wealthy aristocrats. It wasn’t until the late 19th century, that cheaper massed produced tin wind-up toys were made widely available to children. After World War Two, plastic and electric toys became more popular and in the 1960s, the invention of cheap alkaline batteries sounded the death knell for wind-up toys." Come check out all of the fun toys on display at the Field House Museum for the holidays! #funfactfriday #toys #winduptoys #eugenefield #historichouse #holidaydecor
Many St. Louisans will recognize the old Eugene Field School named after the famous Children's Poet. Today the building has been converted into lofts and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Visit the Field House Museum and learn all about Eugene and why so many places were named after the famous Missourian. #throwbackthursday #eugenefield #eugenefieldschool #museum #historichouse #tour

Julia Field believed that her husband's legacy should live on so she donated many of the great artifacts within our collection when Eugene's childhood home was saved in 1936. Several of her items can be seen in this image, including her beaded purse, perfume bottle, and hair brushes. We are so grateful for the family's continued support in honoring the family's legacy. #collections #collect #Legacy #StLouis #STL #museumarchive #Museums2020
