Step 2: Joplin Response and Recovery Plan (as of June 3, 2020) We wanted to provide an update to keep our followers informed of what’s open, what’s not, and the... status of upcoming programs within Parks and Recreation. Please read the entire post below. Many common questions are also addressed in the FAQ document on our website at www.joplinparks.org. Our two most popular questions are: 1) Are the playgrounds open? As of June 2, they are open. It will take some time for our staff to take down the fencing around all of the playgrounds, so we ask for your patience. Please remember social distancing guidelines when visiting public spaces. 2) When are the pools opening? Up to this point, we have been recruiting, hiring, and training lifeguards to ensure our facilities are properly staffed and patrons are safe. With current regulations and restrictions, we are planning to open Schifferdecker Aquatic Center on Monday, June 15, 2020. The facility will feature a limited capacity of 375 guests and some amenities will be modified and/or closed. We do not have enough staff to safely open Cunningham Aquatic Center and Ewert Aquatic Center, and they will be closed for the 2020 season. Regarding our facilities that are listed at limited capacity in the graphic below, the usage depends on each location. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we adapt to the recommended operations for parks and recreation. Please know these things may change in the upcoming days and weeks. AQUATICS UPDATE as of MAY 21, 2020 In anticipation of the upcoming Aquatics Season, we would like to announce a tentative plan for the 2020 Aquatics Season. This is only tentative and may change in the upcoming days and weeks. We will post updates as needed. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff hiring and lifeguard trainings have been delayed. Due to this and other operating factors, the tentative opening date for Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is June 15, 2020. As of today, we... are unsure if we will have enough lifeguards to open Cunningham Aquatic Center or Ewert Aquatic Center. We are still accepting lifeguard applications. Those interested may apply online at www.joplinmo.org/jobs. Any facility that opens will have a reduced guest capacity and other amenity modifications to ensure guest and staff safety during this time. Season passes will be available for purchase at a later date and the cost will be prorated to reflect the amended pool season. Pool party rentals will not be permitted at any facility in the month of June. A very limited amount of party dates will be available in July and August. We will start accepting reservations on June 3rd for rentals to be held after July 5th. Many common questions are addressed in the FAQ document on our website. POOL SCHEDULE With the #BackToSchool season quickly approaching, our 2019 swim season will start winding down soon. Here's a handy calendar highlighting which p...ools are open starting August 1st through Labor Day. We stagger the pools' closing schedule to accommodate patrons as long as safely possible. We lose a majority of our lifeguards and seasonal staff by mid-August because they are returning to high school and college.

Due to internet issues at Schifferdecker Aquatic Center and Ewert Aquatic Center, the facilities will be cash only until further notice. Our IT Department is working to resolve the issues. Thank you for understanding.
