Eureka High School Girls Cross Country and Track and Field

Lizzie Bailey had a great meet yesterday. She scored 30 points for the team by winning the javelin, discus and shot put. She also broke her own school record in the javelin with a throw of 40.99m or 134’ 6.

Starting the track season off strong. 4x1600 champs at the Festus Earlybird meet in a time of 22:00.37. That’s the #2 time in school history. You couldn’t tell it has been 671 days since these ladies lined up to race on the track.

Anyone interested in participating in girls track and field should attend our Zoom meeting at 10:00am today. Since our team is too large to put into a room together due to Covid regulations I will give you info on how the first week of practice will work over Zoom. If you don’t have the link for the meeting already send Coach Lewis an email and I will get it to you.

Track and Field season starts next Monday, March 1st. There will be a Zoom meeting this Friday, February 26th, at 10:00am for any girls planning to participate in track and field. This meeting will be used to talk to the girls about the first week of practice. We will discuss where to meet, what is needed, which locker room to use, practice times, etc. Please have the girls email me for the zoom link if they don’t already have it.

Congrats to @ehs_swim_dive on their 2nd place team finish at State! Hailey Schoessel was the individual State Champ in the 50 Free and the 400 Free Relay was also State Champions!

Our Track & Field season officially starts in 27 days. Please make sure your Privit Profile is updated ASAP. There are 3 things that must be done in order to have an updated Privit profile for track. 1. An valid physical must be uploaded. 2. You have filled out the MSHSAA concussion form, Student Agreement form, Parent Permission form, and Pre-Participation History Form. All these forms are available within Privit and can be filled out inside Privit. 3. You have selected Trac...k & Field as your team. Please share info with anyone else planning to participate in Track and Field this spring.

Another post season honor for Leah Kleekamp. She was just named to the Big River Running 2020 All Metro Cross Country team! This is the second year in a row a panel of coaches from around St. Louis have selected her as one of the top runners in St. Louis.

I just finished watching Coach Beckmeyer’s virtual presentation over his Coaching Progressions for Shot and Disc. He was asked to give this presentation to coaches from all over the state for the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Associations annual coaching clinic. Regardless of which event group you do you should find some time to watch him coach our throwers. I learn something new every time I watch.

Leah Kleekamp gets to add another accomplishment to her XC resume. She was named to the STL Post Dispatch All Metro team.

A big congrats to our school record holder in the Javelin, Lizzie Bailey. She will be a Niner next year as she continues her Track and Field career at UNC Charlotte!

Congrats to Coach Shelton on his upcoming retirement! 25 years at Eureka and another 6 at Kirkwood equals a lot of lives touched by Coach Shelton. When he moved to Kirkwood we definitely missed him working as the head finish line judge at all of our track meets. Best of luck to you and your family as you move forward with the next phase of your life.

Congrats to Eureka alumni Aly Jakcsy. She now runs for Missouri Baptist University and she just qualified to run at Nationals!! Unfortunately, due to Covid she has to wait until April for that race to happen.

A few days ago she earned All State honors at State XC. Today Kayla Voelker announced that she will continue her academic and running career at Missouri State University. Congrats!! Kayla’s announcement means MO State will have 4 Eureka girls on their team next year!

A big thank you to Mrs. George’s second grade class at Blevins Elementary. The girls loved reading your letters of encouragement as they prepared for the State XC meet today. It definitely helped them run fast. We were very impressed with your neat handwriting, excellent drawing ability and good spelling. Keep working hard in the classroom! You all are very smart kids. Our crazy XC season came to a close today. Leah Kleekamp finished in 7th place overall earning her second All State XC award. She set a new PR with a time of 18:32. Kayla Voelker finished 23rd to earn her first All State XC award. Anna Lombardo had a great race and finished 29th just barely missing All State by 4 places. Raegan Schnurbusch is a freshman who competed in her first State meet and finished 72nd. Enjoy some time off from training ladies. You have definitely earned it!

Here is the link to watch the live stream of the girls State XC race tomorrow. Race time is 8:30am. The coverage should start around 8:15. Anyone who finishes in the top 25 will earn All State.
