YESTERDAY WAS HARD!!! It was my last day at You &Your Surroundings. My last day of doing hair in the town that I started in twenty years ago. Saying goodbye is hard enough, but saying it one hundred times is right at the top of my list of hardest things I’ve ever done. I have grown up with some of you. We have seen each other through lots of laughs, tears, graduations, weddings, babies, divorce, another wedding, raising families, abuse, addictions, bad relationships, birth...days, anniversaries, sickness and loss. Let’s not forget about the at home hair emergencies some of you created. We have been through it all and I’m grateful for all of the memories. It’s the big reason I do what I do because honestly I can take all of the classes in the world but if I don’t succeed at making you feel better on the inside it’s going to make it very difficult for me to make you feel better about the way you look. The salon has always felt like a second home to me. You don’t know this but the salon has always been an escape for me more times than I can count. I say this because if I had anything major going on in my life I knew I could come to work and talk about your problems and they would be way worse Kidding, kind of My co-workers and clients have become some of the best friendships I will ever have. I feel so lucky to have this many people make it so hard to say goodbye. Thank you for all of your support and friendship through the years. It means more than you will ever know. Thank you for sticking with me this year. Between being shutdown for nine weeks only to come back and tell you I moved away and you still wanted to come in as long as you could. Thank You!!!! If I’ve ever wondered what bittersweet actually felt like I know now. Through all of the difficult goodbyes I’m really excited about the future!! I want to thank everyone @luminesalonkc for being so welcoming and cool to me! You all have made this so much easier. Thank you @luminenancy for being so understanding and allowing me time to transition into your wonderful space! That was extremely thoughtful and kind of you. Best wishes to all in the New Year!!

Can we just have a moment of silence for how breathtaking Pamela’s color is?! This was our second session. The first time I saw Pamela she was considering letting her natural color grow out because she was tired of trying to keep up with her regrowth. It kept showing up way too soon! The solution to this problem doesn’t have to be to stop coloring altogether! With the help of @luminenancy we decided Pamela wouldn’t be happy letting go of her amazing head of red hair! She ju...st needed a lighter shade of red and a formula that wasn’t so opaque. Now, as her regrowth starts to come in there isn’t so much contrast between her colored hair and her own. Soft Blended Brightness This was my first session with Allison. Her goal was to feel brighter all over but keep it low maintenance. She had been getting a balayage about 2-3 times a year. The grow out was nice but she didn’t feel quite bright enough. In order to stick with a low maintenance grow out and achieve brightness we opted to try Baby Lights in a Balayage placement! By using a finer weave (Baby Lights) we were able to achieve a softer, diffused result. By using fo...il and a traditional foil lightener (instead of balayage clay lightener) it allows for more lift (brightness) than you will get with a balayage. Finally, placing the foils in a balayage pattern preserves her natural depth and allows those little blonde strands to pop!
