Look who made the news! Concrete Business Daily, Las Vegas, featured this article about our CEO, Darrel Adamson and Engrave-A-Crete's exhibit at the 2015 World ...of Concrete show. The article reads: Engrave-A-Crete is a family-owned business that takes pride in manufacturing an impressive line of decorative concrete engraving tools and products at their state-of-the-art facility in Mansfield, MO. Known for superior quality and dependability, Engrave-A-Crete’s tools, products and processes are used worldwide to preserve and enhance existing concrete surfaces. Darrel Adamson, President of Engrave-A-Crete, refers to himself as the HPIC, head cat wrangler, chief pile-it and head gopher for the company. A more accurate description would be inventor, designer, researcher, developer, businessman, machinist and the list goes on. A true pioneer in the decorative concrete industry, Darrel is well known for his integrity, knowledge, experience and expertise in all things concrete. Q. Describe how your business began and has evolved. A. I spent several years in concrete sawing and drilling before getting into decorative concrete. I was working with overlays in 1988 and was frustrated with some of the limitations. As I was driving down the freeway in Florida, I came up with a solution a tool that could quickly and efficiently cut decorative grooves into concrete. My first engraving job was a brick pattern driveway. I made my first tool sale at World of Concrete in 1992. Engrave-A-Crete was founded that year, operating mainly from a garage. From 1992-1999, I developed several other decorative concrete engravers, including the Super Compact Cobra. The Cobra is still one of our best and most popular tools today. My son, Brandon, and I began offering hands-on training in staining, layout, engraving and marketing. We continue to offer Discovery & Training seminars several times a year, as well as advanced classes. In 2007, we relocated to our current 85,000 sq ft manufacturing and training facility in Mansfield, Missouri. I’m always developing new tools, and Engrave-A-Crete now sells equipment and products around the world. It seems that everyone likes pretty concrete. Q. What, exactly, is concrete engraving? A. Concrete engraving is the act of remodeling existing (cured) concrete by cutting patterns and texture into the surface. Engraved designs and patterns simulate building materials such as brick, tile, stone, pavers or a wide variety of graphic elements. Geometric patterns with straight, circular or serpentine lines and custom designs are cut directly into the surface of the concrete. Engraving adds depth and dimension, and serves as a color separation technique. Q. Do you have special plans for the show? A. We will have trial runs with our tools. By that, I mean we have concrete slabs ready and anyone who’s interested can try their hand at engraving. We encourage the hands-on experience because most people can’t believe how easily our tools cut designs into concrete until they actually do it. We’ll have several different models there so they can choose the tool that meets their wants and needs, or they can use them all. Try wrapping your hand around a Cobra. It’s awesome!
