Hold onto your folks, it's gonna get windy tonight! Strong winds will follow the departing storm system this evening & overnight tonight. A Wind Advisory goes into effect at 7pm in east-central MO and west-central IL, where gusts over 40mph are forecast.

A deepening low pressure system will produce very strong westerly winds from late afternoon into the evening. Wind gusts of 45+ mph are expected at times acros...s parts of northeast and east central Missouri and well as west central and south central Illinois. Winds this strong could blow around unsecured outdoor objects, down tree limbs, and produce isolated power outages. People traveling on north-south roads will experience strong cross winds. High profile vehicles will be especially susceptible. Drive cautiously and give high profile vehicles extra room. See more

Prepare for I-70 traffic impacts this weekend at the Rocheport Bridge To help design the new Rocheport Bridge, crews will be collecting geological samples thi...s weekend. This work will require the westbound driving lane to be closed to traffic between April 9 at 7 p.m. & April 11 at 6 a.m. from the Rt BB interchange to one mile west of the bridge. Due to the uptick in energy needs during this cold spell, we are hearing that there will be rolling power outages starting for certain energy service areas. Here are a few tips to stay warm and conserve heat during these outages.

Blizzard to near blizzard conditions are expected tomorrow with strong winds and snow. Travel conditions will be impacted around the region, but will be most treacherous across northwestern Missouri. Consider postponing travel, especially along I-29 and I-35 north of the metro.

Winds and winter weather will be affecting the forecast area, especially north and NW Missouri. If possible, keep travel at a minimum on Friday and avoid travel north of HWY 36 due to the chance for blowing snow reducing visibilities, creating hazardous traveling conditions.
