Dance is a deep part of us all!

One of our dance teachers is in the hospital and needs prayers. Please pray. Apparently I was mistaken about the circumstances concerning Diamond's situation. Please keep praying and disregard what I previously said.

Tristian started out as a dance aide for Em's Spotlight years ago. Now after being an Em's Spotlight lead teacher, belonging to many dance companies all over the country and back in KC running his own company and producing dance shows he has added this to his resume. He truly loves sharing his talent and love of dance. He is highly recommended by Em's Spotlight. Feel free to share this post

Covid 19 has hit nonprofits hard. Em's Spotlight is hanging on. I wanted to give a shout out to Pam Kimble and Moses Rodriguez who posted a Birthday Fund Raiser for Em's Spotlight. (Check came today.) Also a very grateful thanks to the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation who has supported Em's Spotlight since 2007. Em's Spotlight was unsure if we would still receive our grant. (No summer school, no program) We received the good news today we have been approved for another year! This amazing foundation believes in Em's Spotlight even during the pandemic. Em's Spotlight continues to get signs that this dance program IS supposed happen, that our kids with limited opportunities are important and Emily's dream was on TARGET!

Covid Update: Mid March we received notice from LINC that our program would be suspended because of school being closed. We are uncertain what our afterschool programing will look like this coming school year. No summer program (our largest program) due to no summer school or camps. The Good News: ... Our landlord has been willing to work with us concerning our rent. Em’s Spotlight was approved for the PPP government program. We are still planning on having our auction fundraiser, but the date is still up in the air depending on the social distancing recommendations. It is scary not knowing what Em’s Spotlight will look like in the future. Looking at Em’s Spotlight’s past, it is unbelievable that we have gotten this far. I basically had no idea what I was doing and we have had very little money to run a nonprofit that serves our high number of dancers. I believe this program is a necessity and is meant to be there for those who need a boost to their self esteem, find a creative way to exercise, learn about teamwork and life in general. We are blessed with amazing teachers, staff, donors and volunteers. Without programs there will be no grant money. We cannot close for a year and then start up when things are back to normal. You would understand that if you saw our warehouse full of costumes. Em’s Spotlight was created after a tragedy. Emily dying has had a huge impact on our lives and now many parts of our country. Em’s Spotlight has served approximately 8,000 dancers. Former dance teachers have moved to other parts of the country and started their own dance group, serving urban core dancers. Costume collections and fundraisers have taken place as service projects in many other states. Losing Emily was beyond heartbreaking, but good has occurred because of it. I have had the privilege of working with and becoming friends with so many loving, caring teachers and staff. Our dancers have become Em’s Spotlight family. I am still in contact with some of our dancers from past years who are now adults. I have been recognized out in public (once even with my mask on) and greeted with a hug and Hi Ms Vicki! So many blessing have happened because of a tragedy. My prayer is that this Covid 19 will also bring blessings. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for guidance. Stay safe, wear your mask, wash your hands and take care of yourself. You are a vital part of Em’s Spotlight!

You have sewn, volunteered at recitals and encouraged our kids. You have supported us financially, encourage us, and kept us in your prayers. You have been a great friend for over 30 years. Ms.Vickie! I’m so happy to hear that it’s (Em's Spotlight) still going strong. I have every cd from back then and I’m thankful for the memories. We love and miss you! Bless you Best ever PM received. It is from a former Em's Spotlight student. He took dance for about 5 years from us (Also his 2 brothers, sister and a cousin) He is now in his early 20's.
