We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Justin King to the Board of Directors of Employment Connection. Justin joins us as our 2021 Olin/United Way Board Fellow via Washington University, where he has spent the last 8 years working in oncology research and is currently enrolled in the Professional MBA program at Olin Business School. During his time at Washington University School of Medicine, Justin focused on clinical and translational research of the blood cancer, multiple myeloma. Recently, Justin joined a global healthcare intelligence organization managing oncology clinical trial operations, focusing on making breakthroughs in modern drug development and improving patient outcomes. Justin enjoys traveling to visit with friends and family and playing golf whenever he can during his free time. Welcome to the EC family Justin!

We were honored to recognize all of these amazing individuals as part of Women's History Month!

Today is National 2-1-1 Day, when we celebrate and raise awareness about United Way 2-1-1, our region’s navigation center. Because of your support of United Way, 2-1-1 is just a call, text and chat away ready to help connect local people to the vital resources they need to survive and thrive, from mental health to housing, childcare and more. As COVID-19 has brought big changes and challenges to our day-to-day lives, 2-1-1 remains crucial in helping our neighbors find th...e assistance they need. 2-1-1 received more than 192,000 calls in 2020, a 54% increase over 2019. At Employment Connection, we're thrilled to partner with the United Way to provide job training, eviction prevention, and other vital services to our neighbors in St. Louis. Through our partnership, we were able to keep over 500 families housed in St. Louis last year, doubling our volume from the year before. We are excited to announce that Ameren Missouri and the Ameren Corporate Charitable Trust have stepped up in a major way to support several of our programs at EC! First off, we want to thank them for their support of our Cure Violence teams in Wells-Goodfellow/Hamilton Heights and Dutchtown!#amerencorp

We are proud to have provided over 500 families with eviction prevention assistance (rent, mortgage and utility payment assistance) in 2020, and are actively continuing this work in 2021 thanks to our funders. Kudos to our dynamic housing staff!

Our Cure Violence staff in the Dutchtown neighborhood were out spreading some holiday cheer late last week.

Earlier this year we partnered with 6th Ward Alderwoman Christine Ingrassia, St. Louis Community Foundation and other donors to purchase and distribute over 70,000 PPE masks to community partners such as Affinia Health Care, Hosco Foods, St. Louis Continuum of Care, Stop the Bleed, Ethical Society of Police and St. Louis Public Schools.
