You’ve got a goal. It’s a big one, and you want it REALLY badly. You know it won’t be easy.... As a matter of fact, there are moments when you doubt that attaining the goal is even possible. But, yes, you want it. You want it more than anything. Standing on the edge of the first step into this journey, a journey that requires sacrifice and hard, hard work, it’s prudent to ask yourself this question: What pain are you willing to sustain? That’s the question. Nothing else matters unless you’re prepared to sustain the pain of achieving the goal you’ve set. It won’t accidentally be easy, and it will probably be a lot harder than you anticipated. Especially when the honeymoon phase of setting the goal wears off. It takes absolutely no pain to set the goal. It will hurt to achieve it though. In his book, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k, (don’t let the title fool you, this is an extremely well written and thought out book), Mark Manson says; Who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for. Simple. Yet so often forgotten. The total of who you are now is equal to the sum of all the pain and sacrifice you’ve endured along the way. That guy with the enviable physique in the gym? He fought for it. The woman with the wildly successful business start up? Behind the scenes was struggle and uncertainty and unrelenting drive. So, set that goal. Prepare for the pain of achieving it. And know, BECAUSE OF THE PAIN,the feeling of accomplishment when you hit your goal is worth it. Sigmund Freud said it best; One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful. It’s your turn. Emerge. (Jan 1 2021, Glenn Ezell / Emerge Fitness Trainer) I posted late in 2019 that I decided to end my running career and start walking. After 31 marathons and 30,000+ miles, at age 63, the degenerative effects of aging cannot be stopped and my knees have had enough. So my first mile of walking started with our annual New Year’s Day run a year ago today. The graph shows 800+ miles for the year 2020. Who would’ve thought you could burn 80,000+ calories by walking. That’s a...bout 25 pounds for someone looking to lose weight. So I’m getting ready to head out the door for my first walk of 2021 at Lost Valley. It’s freezing cold, freezing rain, stiff wind and muddy on the trail. I’ve been here before, I can do this, I can walk for another year. I’ll let you know come December. I can help you with endurance, I can help you walk. It’s your turn.

Kindness. Character. Community. Emerge Everyone athletes have always shown how strong and capable they are in fitness, but even more important is the sense of team and community our classes give to people with intellectual disabilities. At today’s class with Coach Ben, JP noticed Brennan needing some help pushing the yolk and did not hesitate to step up. And at the end, Brennan was grateful, positive, and even shouted Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!... So proud of our athletes for what they accomplish and even more for who they are as people. - #emergeeveryone #emerge #intellectualdisabilities #developmentaldisabilities #downsyndrome #specialneeds #community #kindness #kindnessmatters #character #fitness #fitnessforall #strength #rogue #motivation #nonprofit #team #teamwork #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #proud #proudtrainer
