As 2019 comes to a close, we mark the 147th anniversary of Elmwood Cemetery’s founding and look forward to another year of preserving beautiful Elmwood. Elmwood’s story is the story of Kansas City, of the citizens who made this city the incredible place it is today. It is our privilege to preserve and maintain this civic treasure. A number of repair and upgrade projects have been completed this past year - heating and cooling were installed in Armour Chapel, and improvements ...have been made to the Office building so both are more comfortable and better preserved. We have also installed a new security system and added lighting to help ensure the safety of this important place. However, we still need your help. One of the areas of greatest need is the repair of the century-old concrete wall on the Cemetery’s West side. A section of this 14 ft high, 180 ft long wall is leaning precariously. We have obtained a structural engineer’s recommendations for buttressing the wall, but the cost of the repair will be approximately $150,000. If this wall falls, it will destroy the memorial stones for those buried in its shadow - one of the most peaceful groves in beautiful Elmwood. With your help, we can save these memorials, but we need your support now. Many thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday night for the showing of Frankenstein at Elmwood Cemetery. A special thanks to Kansas City FilmFest International for organizing the event - from the reception to the tour to the movie, it was great, and we can't wait to do it again!
