This is a very capable solar unit and like the rest of the Gallagher products, they're very reliable. They do cost more upfront to purchase, but you're paying for their quality and long term reliability and not just a name.

They're a decent quality fence charger for the money. They're not the most expensive brand and they're not the cheapest brand either. Some of their units carry a 2 year warranty and some carry a 3 year warranty. They make a variety of units from small garden backyard units, solar powered units, straight 12v units, straight ac units, dual powered ac/dc power units, units that come with a remote control fault finder, and medium and larger powered units for medium to larger size pastures. I've been repairing all brands and ages of electric fence units for 17-18 years and working on electrical stuff in general for 20 years. Recently the wife and I... got to talking about possibly selling electric fence equipment because we get calls and emails about recommendations and help on what size unit to buy and why. The wife asked me, if you were going to buy a new unit, what would you buy. I told her, from a repair guys standpoint, I'd buy a Gallagher myself because of their reliability and longevity. So I talked with Gallagher and did a bunch of paperwork stuff, and finally got set up to be a dealer for their brand. I'm not going to push selling a new unit to someone, but if they ask questions and want my input to fix or replace their unit, or what unit to buy, I will try and help them out where I can and let them make the decision. All the fault finders on the market do the job their designed to do, but Gallagher is the only bags that offers repair parts for their testers. The ones by Speedrite, Stafix, Zareba etc... aren't repairable if it's more than battery change out, they're designed as throwaway testers which is a shame when new ones are $100-$125+ for a new tester.
