FEDERAL TAX DAY HAS BEEN MOVED TO MAY 17TH, 2021 So what does this mean? Did you bump up tax brackets? You still have time to lower your tax exposure for 2020. You now have until May 17th to make federal income tax payments for the 2020 year without penalities or interest, regardless of the amount owed. The extended deadline and payment relief are automatic; individual taxpayers do not need to file any forms or call the IRS to qualify. *Although the filing deadline has ...been pushed back, the deadline to open or contribute to a traditional or Roth IRA for the 2020 year remains April 15th, 2021.* If you were 59 or younger in 2020, and you withdrew funds from your IRA or 401(k) to take advantage of the suspended 10% penalty, you may be able to recontribute some of that money by the tax deadline, excluding this amount from your taxable income. Finally, even if you don’t itemize your taxes, you can claim a deduction of up to $300 for cash gifts you made to qualified charitable groups in 2020. And you can do it again in 2021 plus, married couples filing jointly can now claim a $600 deduction. If you have any questions, give me a call at 314-991-4640.
