Parents - Your kids are watching and listening. Be careful with your negative self-talk. Confession: I am THE WORST about complaining about my ugly legs. After more than 10 knee surgeries, I have scars, bumps, random swelling, loss of muscle tone - they are definitely NOT pretty. I talk about my "ugly legs" matter-of-factly, never caring who was listening. Until today.... My daughter wore a dress for Easter, and she said, "mommy, I don't like my legs. They're ugly." I looked at her perfect little legs and my eyes welled up with tears. And it hit me that the ONLY reason she said it is because she's heard me say it. I never stopped to think that my negative self talk was sending the wrong message to my daughter with newly developing self image. And it made me wonder how many other times I've done this - sent the wrong message to her and talked negatively about myself. I am ashamed to admit that I do it ALL THE TIME. So what can we do?! It's simple: let's start by speaking POSITIVELY about our bodies. Let's love ourselves and send messages of acceptance to those little listening ears. Let's teach our children to love and accept themselves and others. Let's embrace our differences! I don't know about you, but I could definitely stand to love myself a little bit more. Let's all do better and maybe our kids will be even better than us! ~Tricia

We are looking at potentially adding someone to our team. Ideally, they could work late afternoons, evenings and maybe some weekend hours. And if they love working with kiddos (especially the younger ones), that's definitely a bonus! I would be happy to consider an intern for this position, or someone who is still under supervision. I am a Licensed Supervisor through the state of MO. (Must be either LPC, PLPC, or in an internship for a grad school program to become an LPC.) If you or someone you know is interested, have them send a cover letter and resume to me! [email protected]

You are beautiful

There's a Bible verse that says to "rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn". I think that is my very favorite part of being a therapist. Yesterday, a client came in and shared the most exciting news, and I literally squealed with delight when she told me. It wasn't a fake response either. I was legitimately so thrilled for her, as she has been waiting for this news for a very long time. You see, as therapists, we aren't just "doing a job". We genuine...ly care about our clients. We love being able to share in their struggles and pain, and also in their accomplishments and happy times. We get to be a part of whatever story they're a part of. We get to celebrate accomplishments and exciting news, and cry when they are experiencing something tragic. Empathy is a beautiful and powerful thing, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to share it with my clients. If you're one of them, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your story. ~Tricia See more
