DSCC Community Empowerment Organizer, Karisa Gilman-Hernandez spoke at Congresswoman Cori Bush's press conference, referencing the work DSCC has been doing to acknowledge and address environmental racism in our neighborhoods. With our partners at the Environmental Justice Roundtable, DSCC has been working to promote community created solutions to the issues laid out in the Environmental Racism in St. Louis Report. There is a survey out right now so people can tell us what changes they want to see prioritized. This is the Survey link: bit.ly/STLERsurvey

Pleased to share with you this morning that we have worked with the 22nd Judicial Circuit to secure another extension on the moratorium on #COVID19-related evic...tions in the City of St. Louis. We continue to work with our partners to invest more than $7 million in #CARESAct funding to help keep people in their homes because this pandemic is not over. Here’s a copy of the latest order. Thank you Judges Burlison and Stelzer.

Help us celebrate with Froebel Literacy Academy on reaching 125 years! "In 1895, Froebel Literacy Academy opened its’ doors as part of the Saint Louis Public Sc...hool District (SLPS). Located on the city’s Southside, the Froebel Eagles educate students who live in the historic Gravois-Jefferson neighborhood. This year (2020), Froebel celebrates 125 years of commitment to helping students soar to excellence. "Through the years, many changes have taken place throughout the city of St. Louis and SLPS. As such, we are grateful to still be around to provide an education to students in this community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not able to celebrate this milestone on a larger scale. However, to commemorate this special occasion, the entire Froebel staff wanted to take a safe group picture that displays the school’s architecture and our commemorative staff polo shirt. "Thank you to SLPS for 125 years of continued support to Froebel, and a special thanks to our community partner, Dutchtown South STL, for donating the staff shirts. Behind our masks are smiles of gratitude!" - Principal Jim Triplett

From North to South and on the path to DC, our community is lifting its voice to raise concerns about the current Saint Louis Public Schools consolidation plan ...and its potential impact on youth, families, neighborhoods and our region. Check out and amplify these statements from some of our neighbors: 4theville https://bit.ly/4theVille Dutchtown South Community Corporation https://bit.ly/DutchtownSouthCC Cori Bush https://bit.ly/RepElectCoriBush If you haven’t already, take a look at and share our guidance on how to assess the impact of school closings on neighborhoods with racial and economic equity at the center: http://investstl.org/slps-closings/.

Hi Neighbors! You may have missed the news with all of the other news going around lately, but... Some very exciting and illuminating updates in the neighborhoo...d: we have new/additional lights on Virginia Avenue (from Meramec to Bates)!! This effort wasn’t without its set-backs, but it all started with neighbors participating in a walk around the Dutchtown CID (Community Improvement District), to compile a list of safety enhancements for the area. (Shameless plug, get involved with the Dutchtown CID, Downtown Dutchtown, or other neighborhood organization!!!!! It’s makes a difference when we have more neighbors offering their time, expertise, and perspectives!) Virginia Avenue is a major neighborhood corridor with over 7,000 vehicles per day(!) traveling it, and a highly used bus route, and lots of pedestrian traffic: it just makes sense to bring additional light for all those who use it everyday. We’ve added roughly 30 new lights to the west side of the street, where previously there were none. Many thanks to all my neighbors who’ve helped through this process, and to Ameren Missouri for their support and contribution toward the project, as well.
