Saka Dawa, is one of the most sacred of Buddhist holy month that is observed for the birth, enlightenment and death (parinirvana) of the Buddha Shakyamuni.... This year, saka dawa is observe from 23rd May till 21st June, full moon on 5th June, 2020. Dawa literally means month in Tibetan. The term Saka, interestingly, comes from Tibetan astrology, and the Saka star that is associated with the full moon of the fourth lunar month. The Saka Dawa observations take place in the fourth Tibetan month. Most holy of all is the full moon day of Saka Dawa, the 15th day of the month(5th June), which is the date most commonly associated with not only Buddha’s birth but also his enlightenment and parinirvana. It is believed that any merits that are collected during this holy month will have multiple effects. Observing the eight Mahayana precepts for this holy month is advised and following the meritorious worthy acts include: *Pilgrimages to sacred places such as sacred mountains, lakes and caves, notable monasteries, and temples. *Performing koras in a clockwise direction around a shrine or other holy places.
