An Introduction to Chiropractic Chiropractic is a manual medicine. We do not use prescriptions or surgery. In Missouri the title of this type of Doctor is called a Chiropractic Physician. This type of manual approach to sickness and symptoms is normally started through manipulation of the spine or extremity that has lost its ability to function correctly. The manipulation (adjustment) of the bones of the spine and elsewhere allows for optional blood flow and nerve conducti...on. This alignment (treatment) also increases the ability of the immune system to ward off illness. Chiropractic Physicians are the only doctors that are specifically trained to restore spinal balance. No other doctor or profession makes this claim. If you think about it, it isn’t the bandage or ointment that you put on a cut that heals it, and it’s never the pill that cures the cold. The body, when functioning properly, heals and maintains itself from the inside. My job as a Chiropractor is to remove nerve interference that the body is experiencing so that the body can do its job and maintain your HEALTH. The ADJUSTMENT (alignment) that a chiropractor is trained to correct are misalignments of the joints of the body. Often after an adjustment, the patient may feel immediate relief. If you have had the joint problem for a long time, it may take more than one adjustment to bring relief. If you go to the dentist with crooked teeth, he will explain to you that you may need to wear braces to straighten them. These braces must be adjusted as your teeth correct themselves. Retainers will also be used for some time to finish correcting the canals that the teeth sit in. The spine and joints of the body have retaining elements also; they are muscles, ligaments, and tendons. When proper alignment is restored to the bones and joints, the correct position must be maintained while the retainers heal into their proper position. Exercises and do’s and don’ts during your working day and play will keep you in better alignment. See more
