Adjusted Office Schedule Starting next week in order to better serve our patients the best possible way through this time of the Corona virus, we will be doing morning visits as non sick visits and the afternoon will be primarily for sick visits. We also have opened up the option for those that are ill to do a call in visit or a drive up visit. Another option to help cut down on interaction with others is for you to call the office once you arrive and let us know that you are here and when there is an open room our staff will call you in. Please let us know if you need mask on your arrival.

Sun Exposure & Skin Cancer Fifteen minutes of exposure to the sun even on a cloudy day is all that is needed for damage to the skin to occur. Men, especially those with lighter skin, are more likely than anybody else to get skin cancer, including melanomathe deadliest kind of skin cancer. When you think about sun protection, you might think about a day at the beach. But over your lifetime, you get sun exposure doing everyday things like biking, working, running, or even m...owing the lawn. Sun exposure is the main source of ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can cause skin cancer. And UV exposure adds up over time, increasing your risk of developing skin cancer. It is recommended to use at least a 15 spf sunscreen and to reapply it if out for more than a few hours. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Every year, nearly 5 million people are treated for skin cancer, at a cost of about $8 billion. Melanoma causes around 9,000 deaths per year in the U.S. See more

Intimate Partner Violence The term intimate partner violence describes physical violence, sexual violence, stalking and psychological aggression (including coercive acts) by a current or former intimate partner. More than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in 4 men (28.5%) in the U.S. report having experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. An intimate partner is a person with whom one has a close personal relations...hip that can be characterized by the following: 1. Emotional connectedness 2. Regular contact 3. Ongoing physical contact and/or sexual behavior 4. Identity as a couple 5. Familiarity and knowledge about each other’s lives The relationship need not involve all of these dimensions. Examples of intimate partners include current or former spouses, boyfriends or girlfriends, dating partners, or sexual partners. IPV can occur between heterosexual or same-sex couples and does not require sexual intimacy. IPV can vary in frequency and severity. It occurs on a continuum, ranging from one episode that might or might not have lasting impact to chronic and severe episodes over a period of years. There are four main types of IPV. These include sexual violence, stalking, physical violence, and psychological aggression. Sexual violence: includes rape, being made to penetrate someone else, sexual coercion (non-physically pressured sex), unwanted sexual contact (such as groping), and noncontact unwanted sexual experiences (such as verbal harassment). Contact sexual violence is a combined measure that includes rape, being made to penetrate someone else, sexual coercion, and/or unwanted sexual contact. Stalking: victimization involves a pattern of harassing or threatening tactics used by a perpetrator that is both unwanted and causes fear or safety concerns in the victim. Physical violence includes a range of behaviors from slapping, pushing or shoving to severe acts that include hit with a fist or something hard, kicked, hurt by pulling hair, slammed against something, tried to hurt by choking or suffocating, beaten, burned on purpose, used a knife or gun. Psychological Aggression: includes expressive aggression (such as name calling, insulting or humiliating an intimate partner) and coercive control, which includes behaviors that are intended to monitor and control or threaten an intimate partner. Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police. Nationally, 50% of batterers who abuse their intimate partners also abuse their children.
