ATTENTION ALL VETERANS: Did you know that Dr. Myles is a Veteran of the United States Army? He served in the military for 11 years and departed with an honorable discharge at the level of Lieutenant Colonel. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He then went on to complete an Infectious Disease Fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. While in the military, he served as Deputy Chief of the Vaccine Cl...inical Research Center/US Military HIV Research Program at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research followed by serving as Deputy Chief, Department of Epidemiology and Threat Assessment at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Dr. Otha Myles would like to show his support and appreciation for veterans, like himself, who have sacrificed to serve our country and are living in the Metropolitan St. Louis Region, by participating in the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Community Care Network. Dr. Myles has recently entered into an agreement with Optum/United Healthcare Insurance Company to participate in the VA Community Care Network in order to provide primary care services to Enrolled Eligible Veterans (distance-eligible and special circumstances as determined by the VA). This agreement is effective on December 1, 2020. ASK DR. MYLES Many of you may be asking yourselves the question, Should I get a flu vaccine this year? First, I would recommend you talk with your primary care provider, and below are some important facts adapted from the CDC that you may want to consider regarding everyday prevention and fighting the flu: 1. The flu can be transmitted by other persons who may not show any symptoms of being sick. Children may be able to infect others for almost a week after they are inf...ected with the flu. 2. The flu is transmitted from one person to another by droplets when infected people cough, sneeze, or talk. It can also be spread when a person touches a surface or object with flu virus on it and then touch their mouth, nose or eyes. 3. You can prevent or slow down the spread of the flu by avoiding close contact with people who are sick; cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, throw the tissue into the trash and then wash your hands. 4. You should wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. 5. Don’t forget about cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that may also be contaminated with the flu particles. 6. You should stay for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone except to seek medical care. If you interested in getting a Flu vaccine this year, you can schedule an appointment by calling Myles Healthcare at (314) 833-4001 or you can email us on our patient portal at https://www.myleshealthcare.com/
