Please disregard my verbiage on the post but i wanted to share this! Today 9 years ago was unknowingly when my journey to my health and the thing I love to help people with everyday started. I had always known I wanted to help people, but was lost on how until I became sick myself. This had happened daily for about a month before I officially ended up in the hospital, where I was told I had IBS and would live with it for the rest of my life. A few weeks later from this date, ...I talked with my mentor and friend, Dr. Jaban Moore who helped me figure out I had a sensitivity to bananas (of all things). Of course that wasn’t the end of it, I had parasite, bacteria and heavy metal work to do (and continue to do even today- health is a journey!) but only removing bananas from my diet was the turning point to make me realize I was in control of my health and my future and this pain wasn’t something I would live with for the rest of my life like I was told. So if you are or were like me, trust me when I say there is hope! It is work, but the end result will be so worth it! See more

A happy gut is a happy brain! Did you know that gut microbes produce about 90-95% of the happy neurotransmitter, serotonin? Along with that mood enhancing neurotransmitter, more recent studies have also shown that many other neurotransmitters such as dopamine, GABA, norepinephrine and acetylcholine are produced by the gut as well. That is why when gut dysbiosis occurs, common symptoms such as a decrease in concentration and motivation happen, as well as many see anxiety and depression increase. Some scientists are now theorizing one of the big reasons why stress causes mood disorders is because stress breaks down gut and makes it more permeable to bad bacteria, meaning gut dysbiosis could be more of a factor of depression than previously known!

So how do we fix posture? We want to make sure the body is in balance and ready to strengthen and align. This can be from a multitude of ways, but all structures should be checked over (muscles, bones, ligaments, etc.) in order to make sure we will not injure ourselves while correcting our posture. Then, adding in simple exercises and stretches and making sure you stay conscious of the way you sit, stand or move will help the process along. Once your posture is correct, then maintenance is much easier.

This is one of the reasons why I love to do what I do and work where I work. I am honored to work with Dr. Jaban. He is not only a doctor who is my mentor and friend, but someone who wants to help heal the world, one kiddo at a time. If you feel it in your heart to help, RWC and Dr. Moore would love to match your donation! Thank you!

Posture care is extremely important to all areas of life. When you stand up straight, you keep your specific center of gravity over your feet, making you more stable and keeps you from possible future injuries or imbalances. Correct posture can even help you increase your gains more while working out too. Sometimes our muscles can either help or hurt in our posture correcting situation. When muscles are tense and tight, they can shorten and pull things in the direction of shortening. A great example of this is tight chest muscles pulling your shoulders forward. Also, having weak or inactive muscles can cause slumping and other problematic posture movements, especially in weak core muscles.

Pain comes from many different aspects and is usually just never one easy answer or quick fix. Think of all the things it takes in order to move your body. Bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, the list goes on. So when you have body pain, why do most people only focus in on one thing to try to get the job of healing done? The body is all about balance. Muscles give us the ability to move and stay strong, but ligaments keep us from overextending our movements and causin...g basic movements to make our "bones to go out of place", or subluxations. Bones give us the base structure, but aren't always the only answer. Since muscles move our bones, if a muscle is spasming, there is a likeliness that even after the bone has been set back into place that muscle may pull that bone back out again. That's why it is so important to look at the area of pain as a whole, not just from one aspect. See more

As the cold is coming and going around this season, along with the very fun but sometimes stressful holidays, some of us are getting sicker during this time. There seems to be viruses and bacteria running rampant during this time and who really wants to feel sick during what is supposed to be the happiest season of all? I talked about previously about how important Vitamin D is for the immune system, a few other pointers for viruses may help you get over something faster or e...ven help your body prevent it from taking hold! 1. Monolaurin: very popular in our clinic- especially this time of year. Monolaurin helps with the prevention of viruses by helping remove the lipid envelope of the virus, making it harder for it to replicate and activate in the first place. 2. Golden Thread: used by ancient Chinese medicine for many different things, but has been found effective for certain strands of flu. 3. Echinacea: boosts the immune system and has anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects. 4. Food and drink: keeping a healthy diet can be extremely helpful. 80% of your immune system is in your gut. Eating sugar can suppress your immune system (up to 7 days after ingestion) and cause inflammation in the body, which can weaken your body and give viruses and bacteria we may have been fighting off an better chance of taking over. You remember the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Well, our fruits and veggies have been decreasing in nutrients, making it more like 10 apples a day to keep the doctor away! Decades ago, our foods were much more nutrient dense in vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately now, with the demand for more food and the advancement of modern agricultural methods, our food has been stripped of the nutrients we need. Not only that, but now with the addition of other things to crops (such as pesticides- something that I had no idea affected me but my problem eventually got me into what I do with functional medicine), it has made it even harder for your body to break down foods and keep it healthy and happy.

CPK (or chiropractic plus kinesiology) is a technique that uses a wholistic approach of mind and body to assist the body in healing. As we know, most of us are unable to fit in a box, and that includes our health as well. Many of us have multiple conditions going on at once and sometimes are synergistic (unfortunately, to themselves and not always for our benefit) and need to be addressed together. CPK helps the practitioner locate the root of the problem and how to help the body make the correction. This helps the correction hold longer, which means a more lasting effect.

My last post talked about how to help use preventative measures to prevent a fall or prevent a worse injury, but even with all those measures of prevention, it's still likely gonna happen at some point. So what are some ways to help us prevent serious injury during a fall, or help us get back on our feet the fastest? 1. Protect your head: Your noggin is important, and susceptible to hard impacts. While you're falling, try to tuck your chin and bring your arms up towards your ...face or put your hands behind your head depending on how you're falling in order to fall on your arms instead of your head impacting the ground. 2. Try to spread out the area of impact and try to stay loose: The more surface area that is impacted, the less likely to take all of the damage in one area and could prevent a break. This is why it is important not to fall on your hands to try to catch yourself. The more tension in your body, the more likely for an injury. Remembering to breathe out will help keep your body relaxed and possibly prevent a worse injury by letting your body go in the direction and not absorbing the impact fully. 3. Don't be afraid to get checked out after a fall: If you think you may have hurt yourself, especially your head in a fall, don't be afraid to get it checked out. Professionals are there to make sure you're healthy and on the road to recovery. This can help prevent future pains and make sure that you're back to normal function as soon as possible! See more

So... pretty embarrassing thing happened to me last week. It was icy outside, I only had my tennis shoes on and I slipped. Luckily, the first time I didn't fall (first time being the key word). My second slip I managed to only go down on my knee, but I had a pretty good bruise and some major soreness over the next few days. So this made me wonder, what is the best way to help prevent a fall? Lets be honest, we're all gonna fall at some point so what can we do to try to preven...t it from occurring often or try to prevent injury? 1. Exercise: the more kinds of different training you do, the more your body will be able to bounce back easier after a fall. Variation of exercises help strengthen bones. Balance training specifically also helps. Plus, it doesn't always have to be boring. Zumba and other dance or dance like classes classes are not only fun, but the different movements strengthen different parts of the body that regular walking won't always be able to get to. 2. Wear the correct type of shoes or utilize shoe accessories: This was my downfall (literally in this case). But who wants to change shoes over all the time? Shoe ice grips that slip over your existing shoe can make it safer when walking out in the cold, icy weather. 3. Pick up those feet: Dragging your feet can significantly increase your risk for tripping, so make sure you are taking a proper step each time you walk or run. If you seem to be having trouble picking up your feet, you can do ankle strengthening and mobility exercises to help. If you're still having some troubles, or walking causes you pain, it may be time to get a professional involved to make sure you don't have possible underlying issues. See more
