Well the family that ordered it, finally took possession so I can show it to you. It’s my first chess board. Turned out to be a super fun build for me. The board is maple and walnut endgrain, should last forever and boy is it smooth. It sits on top of a shaped piece of tiger wood from South America. That cradles into a beautiful chunk of walnut. I recessed felt footpads to protect the board and the table it rests on. The finish on the board is three coats of boiled lin...seed oil, the frame is coated with five coats of lacquer. Slick as snot. Since the board is endgrain, it will expand and contract differently than the frame. Because of this I left room for it to move within the frame of tiger wood and mounted it to the plywood bottom.
