Meet Derek! You may already know him as a TikTok star, but did you know that he loves working out with Sherri, our Integrated Fitness Program Director? Integrated Fitness works individually with members that have developmental disabilities to help them meet their socialization, independence and fitness goals in St Louis County and City YMCA's. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our participants were requesting to stay on the wait-list. However, we began to receive reports ...that, due to this, they were feeling increasingly isolated and were finding it difficult to keep up their energy, mobility, and muscle strength. When one has limited mobility, exercise is paramount, and we believe that one size does not fit all. So, in December, the Y started doing one-on-one virtual workouts with a stretchy band that was mailed to each participant. This was an excellent way to keep participants engaged in our community during the pandemic, and it has been wonderful to be able to interact with our participants and help them reach their goals and increase their quality of life in an environment that helps them feel safe. This is further proven to us by the smiles and laughter we receive daily. Derek is proof of that. See more

This holiday we hope our members take some time to be an Angel for the clientele at Healing Action! We ask that you pick up an Angel from the front desk and help bless someone in need with a gift for the holidays. Healing Action is an organization that delivers services based on trauma informed care to survivors of sex trafficking. We are excited to collaborate with them and provide gifts to their clientele and survivors. Things to know:...
