Check out this 1 star Google My Business review by crissy cannon: This is the most disgusting, most horribly run establishment I've ever been to! When I left last night I ELECTRONICALLY put in my tip when I payed my bill.. which considering the condition of the establishment, the service, and the food was a GENEROUS tip! I guess the server took it upon herself to add more to my tip (which was 22%). I called all day and the line was busy. I finally get ahold of someone and she... tells me no manager is there and hangs up on me. Anyone going to Columbia stay clear and let your friends know too! Dear Crissy, As you may have already realized no one at our restaurant added anything to your card once you left, you were only looking at a pending amount, not the amount you were actually charged. I am sorry to hear about the confusion but Denny’s has one of the most secure card/debit card transaction processes in the restaurant industry. We never handle your card, you place it into the terminal, add a tip if you desire and then get a receipt with your total charge. We don’t even have your card number in the restaurant only the last four digits. Please call your bank or credit card company to verify this but here is a general explanation of what you experienced. Unfortunately for you and Denny’s what happened to you is a common mistake for anyone who checks their credit card or debit card balances online and doesn’t understand this. What you saw was a pending amount, not your final bill. The reason the amount was higher is because unlike Denny’s most sit down restaurants do take your card, run it and then bring it back to you to sign and add a tip if you like. Because your bank or credit card company does not yet know what you might add for a tip they authorize and amount generally 20% higher than the bill, the restaurant then reopens your card sometime after you leave and adds the tip amount. Because most credit card companies don’t differentiate Denny’s from other restaurants they still authorize a total amount for a tip to be added later, even if you already added one.
