Water balloon and aerial spray cooldown!
Tonight DCFPD had its 2nd training night for July. Tonight's training consisted of a relay race. Firefighters had to start in the truck, where they placed their air pack on (minus the engineer). 1. Firefighters had to establish water supply at the hyrdrant. 2. Extend a hose line 100ft, where they were to knock over a safety cone utilizing a straight stream. 3. Maneuver the hose line to another cone and utilize a fog pattern to knock the cone over. 4. After successful cone dr...ops, firefighters had to get control of a "run away" hoseline (simulating a broken hose). 5. After hose was controlled, the engineer had to place a nozzle on the line and flow water. 6. Time stopped when the truck was full of water. This type of training keeps skills current for the district's firefighters. This was a timed relay where the winners got to indulge in a late night ice cream run to Sonic. Congrats to Asst. Chief Floyd, Firefighter Hayes, and Firefighter Hill on their win. This team had everything complete in 3:53, narrowly beating the second place team by 4 seconds. After the ice cream treat was finished, your district's firefighters cooled down with a friendly water balloon fight and aerial spraying from Ladder 81. Attached is video of the winning relay. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter, stop by and fill out an application.
Tonight DCFPD members conducted vehicle extrication training. DCFPD firefighters consistently train with hands on skills to better protect the members of our community. We would like to thank Tommy Shaw and the crew at American Automotive and Towing for donating 2 of the vehicles and the location to conduct this training. Another thanks to Eric Surles for the donation of a 3rd vehicle. These donations are greatly appreciated and are a necessity for firefighters to keep hands on skills current.
Reminder: We still have smoke detectors available to the public free of charge. Limit one per household.
