With pillows, there really aren’t any concrete rules except to use as many or as few as you want to suit your style. When it comes to prints and patterns, a rule of thumb to remember is: If you have patterned furniture or bedding (or a very elaborate rug), stick with solid curtains. If you have solid-color furniture or bedding, consider patterned curtains. When it comes to the color of your window treatments, you'll need to decide if you want the curtains to blend with your decor or to stand out. For blending, choose curtains that are a similar tone as the wall but a few shades darker, or decide on a non-dominant subtle color in the room (a soft shade from the rug, for example). A bold color will work like an exclamation point (if you’re looking to add some wow). Also, keep in mind that in a room where the sun shines through unlined curtains, the color will infuse the room. Blue can give off an eerie look while pink can look 'cheery.'
