There has been an increase in car theft and stealing from cars throughout St. Charles County recently. Always make sure your car is locked at all times when unoccupied and remove any visible personal items. Most of the incidents of cars being stolen and personal items being stolen was a result of the cars being left unlocked, at all times, during the day on parking lots and at residences during the overnight hours. Numerous cars being stolen were unlocked and running to w...arm up due to the winter temperatures at a residence or at a business when the car owner went inside to make a quick purchase. Keys to the car or keys to the residence should never be left in an unoccupied car. Remember, if a garage door opener is left inside the car, whether locked or unlocked, it could be seen, stolen and now your garage and or your home can be entered. All the police departments in St. Charles County are taking steps to curb this problem by information exchange and patrol increases. Never confront anyone if you encounter them on or near your home looking into or checking car doors; immediately call the police department for your location. If you home has video cameras, check your recorded files daily and if suspicious activity is seen contact your local police department.

It is not too late to bring in a donation for the Bi-City food drive competition and leave it in the City Hall lobby!

As a reminder it is never prudent to leave an unattended vehicle running, locked or unlocked, anytime or anywhere. But especially if it is running and unlocked at home or at a business. Numerous vehicles were stolen throughout the area this morning because they had been left unlocked and running to warm up due to the cold weather. Lastly, always remember to lock your vehicle at all times when not in use and don't leave anything inside that is visible to someone outside to steal.
