Another interesting study involving multiple sclerosis and autologous (your own) haematopoetic stem cells, like the ones found in cord blood, for treating patients. Like some other autoimmune disease trials the patient endures chemotherapy to destroy their own immune system, then are treated with their own stem cells to rebuild it. Although the initial cause of MS is still unclear, many of the patients treated in this study reported that they were symptom-free and some had recovered their ability to walk or use their hands again.
