Like most things in life, it is better to plan where you are going in terms of higher education planning (and get help if you need it) rather than wonder where you are now.

March 23, 2020 With fears of COVID-19 changing our lives now, it is easy to let something like taxes fall by the wayside. Important decisions are being made every day to combat the impact of this virus on the health and sanity of our nation. On Friday, March 13, 2020, President Trump declared a national emergency as a result of the virus. A new law now requires free testing for the corona virus. The breaking news of March 13, announced by US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuc...hin, the April 15 tax deadline has been postponed to July 15. Individuals and small businesses can delay payment of up to $1 million in taxes without penalty to July 15. As your accounting firm, we had already determined to file extensions for everyone for whom we filed a tax return last year. Now, the postponement of the federal tax-filing deadline from April 15 to July 15 is law. Missouri and a handful of other states have extended the deadline to file and pay any taxes due to July 15th as well. However, there are many other states where the tax filing deadline remains April 15, an official extension will be required. Consequently, we will be filing the normal 6-month extension to October 15 on behalf of our clients in other states by April 10, unless you inform us otherwise. As a result of the national anxiety regarding the corona virus, this has been a unique tax season so far. Many clients haven’t dropped off their tax papers yet. To help stop the threat of the virus, we request that our clients mail their tax papers to us, or they may scan their tax papers and send them to us in Adobe pdf format securely, using this link: https://www.hightail.com/u/ColumbiaCPAGroup--main. (Sorry but pictures of pages from your cell phone are not acceptable.) Now, with the deadline extended to July 15 the time pressure is off. That said, if you normally receive a refund, getting us your tax papers sooner, will result in seeing your refund sooner. We will continue to keep you informed about changes that directly impact and benefit you. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us! Also, Cindy Angle our Office Manager is in the process of calling all our clients to discuss any financial or tax concerns they may have relating to this virus. Here to help, Aric E.
