#Repost Shout out to Kirkwood Electric for their incredible response time getting the power on for over 450 customers in less than an hour during frigid temperatures over the weekend. The Kirkwood Electric crew was on site within 5 minutes after the fire started. Special thanks to Renee, the resident who captured the video!

Despite the inclement weather, sanitation trucks are out collecting trash. Please leave your black trash cart out at the curb until it has been collected. Please allow additional time for trucks to make it to your street if today is your trash collection day. We expect to continue trash pickup the remainder of the week, provided that our dropoff stations remain open. We will update you if that changes.

Nearly 3 million doses of coronavirus vaccines are being delivered around the country this week, marking the most ambitious vaccination campaign in American history. Vaccine distribution could begin by the end of this month, but it will not be widely available to the general public for several months. We cannot let up on our efforts to curb the virus. Limiting travel and avoiding gatherings this holiday season will keep people safe. The arrival of vaccines for our healthcare... workers and our nursing home residents is a beacon of hope at the end of a very challenging year. The first batch of vaccines is the initial step toward a goal of inoculating enough people to halt the spread of the virus that has now killed nearly 300,000 Americans, including nearly 1,200 St. Louis County residents. DPH will continue working with the state, which is tasked with managing the vaccine rollout. DPH has installed ultra-cold freezers that will provide a safe place to store the Pfizer vaccine once it arrives and is also prepared for the Moderna vaccine if it is approved soon. Meanwhile, pharmacy companies such as Walgreens and CVS will work to get those vaccinated who work and live-in long-term care facilities. This is part of a national contract that is being managed at the federal level. The vaccine distribution process is going to take time. Once the first round of vaccines is given to healthcare workers and nursing homes, the next round goes to first responders, teachers, child care providers and other essential workers. There is no timeline on this as of yet and is dependent on how many doses the state is given and distributes to vaccine providers across the state. Tips on celebrating the holidays safely can be found at the link below: https://stlcorona.com/winter-holiday-tips/

Thank you to the brave men and women who have served - and those who continue to serve - our country in uniform. Members of our military do more than protect our safety. They preserve the opportunity for millions of people to live up to their God-given potential. For all you have done, America is forever in your debt. #VeteransDay

DON'T FORGET YOU CAN RECYCLE YOUR YARD SIGNS! The City is accepting corrugated plastic yard signs and metal frames and stands from NOW through 14th at the Francis Scheidegger Recycling Center at 350 S. Taylor Avenue. Break down the sign by detaching the metal wire stand from the sign itself. The metal wire is made of steel. Steel wire isn’t recycled curbside, but it can be recycled with other scrap metal.... If the sign is made of paper or cardboard, the paper or cardboard can be recycled curbside, as long as it isn’t laminated. If the sign is sturdy, corrugated plastic, it CANNOT be recycled curbside. Drop off your corrugated plastic yard signs to be recycled at the recycling depository. If the sign is a very thin, flexible plastic (like a plastic bag), that means it’s made from film plastic. This CANNOT be recycled curbside, but it can be recycled with plastic bags.

While we wait for final election results we want you to recycle your political yard signs! The City is accepting corrugated plastic yard signs and metal frames and stands from NOW through 14th at the Francis Scheidegger Recycling Center at 350 S. Taylor Avenue. Campaign signs are a recycling challenge because they’re made from multiple materials, such as paper, plastic and metal. Disposing of them requires taking them apart and disposing of each portion based on its materia...l. Here’s what we need you to do: Break down the sign by detaching the metal wire stand from the sign itself. The metal wire is made of steel. Steel wire isn’t recycled curbside, but it can be recycled with other scrap metal. Before tossing your campaign sign, consider saving it for reuse! You could attach a new message to the board and use it to promote a special event. A local school or nonprofit organization may be able to use the sign, too. If you don’t want to save the entire sign, you may be able to reuse the wire stand for future signs!
