Circus Flora 01.02.2021

Thank you, Kranzberg Arts Foundation, for this wonderful post about our Clowns on Call program! Be sure to read the piece to learn how the Clown Doctors are making (virtual) rounds at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and why program coordinator Audrey Crabtree (better known to the kids as Dr. Pepper!) says hospital clowning is the very best thing she’s ever done.

#TBT to when there might have been a *little* too much sugar in the Circus Flora Hospitality Tent. We can’t wait to see our circus family when it’s safe again (we’ll bring cupcakes!).

New research in the British Medical Journal shows that clowns improve children’s well-being during a hospital stay! That’s why we’re so honored to provide the Clowns on Call program and visit patients at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Our own Karen Shoulders recently spoke with Debbie Monterrey on KMOX News about the healing power of laughter.

Today is World Braille Day! Louis Braille, born on January 4, created a reading and writing system that is essential for blind and partially sighted people. The system allows for education, freedom of expression, and social inclusion and at Circus Flora, we remain committed to providing the magic of a live performance to all. That’s why each year, in partnership with MindsEye, we offer our Sensory-Friendly Performance; it’s our full show, made accessible to audience members who are blind, partially sighted, or who have autism or other sensory sensitivities. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for information about our next shows, when it is safe to gather again!

Just one week until #GivingTuesday and no matter the amount, your gift to Circus Flora goes a long way. For nearly 35 years, Circus Flora has delighted audiences with awe-inspiring productions in our iconic Big Top tent (*and* at home during the COVID-19 pandemic). We also offer year-round community outreach programs, such as Clowns on Call , and special engagements including a Sensory-Friendly Performance for guests with autism and other sensory sensitivities. You can support these efforts and more by making a donation any time on Tuesday, December 1!

#TBT - they grow up so quickly!

Circus Flora 06.11.2020

This spring Circus Flora was forced to make our most difficult decision in nearly 35 years: to postpone our summer production and reconfigure all aspects of our operations. But as they say, the show must go on . . . and it did! In June, Circus Flora debuted its first ever virtual showcase, viewed by over 8,000 households. Our friends at Tiny Little Monster featured limited-edition Circus Flora t-shirts in their #HereForGoodSTL campaign, helping to raise much-needed funds, a...nd Earthbound Beer created an amazing new IPA , with proceeds benefitting us. Meanwhile, the Clowns on Call added Zoom proficiency to their skill-sets and commenced virtual visits with children at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in September. On behalf of the entire Circus Flora company, thank you for continuing to keep the magic of circus in your hearts this year. Throughout this difficult time, we’ve looked forward to nothing more than gathering together in the Big Top in 2021. We ask you to help us get there by making your year-end gift to Circus Flora. Nothing we do in or out of the Big Top is possible without the tremendous support of the St. Louis community! Donate now: https://circusflora.org/donate-now/

We are flying high with happiness this Monday, thanks to the terrific success our Circus Harmony friends achieved over the weekend! In just 24 hours, Circus Harmony (home to the St. Louis Arches) raised more than $65,000 for the organization! Thanks to all who tuned in to The Balancing Act: Walking the Pandemic Tightrope and contributed. Did you miss the show? You can catch it on YouTube at the link below and make a donation at circusharmony.org!
