Today comes as a biter-sweet day as I finish my last day at McCallum Place Eating Disorders Center. McCallum Place has been fundamental in my journey to becoming the Eating Disorder Therapist I am today. It has been 3+ years since I started as an intern therapist and having a new world of opportunities and experiences as direct care associate and primary/group therapist. It is time to turn in this out of date badge and dive head first into my own practice at Chill Therapy, LLC. In the words of my high school senior year class, "Let's free fall into the unknown"

Reppin' mental health awareness month with my new mask. And boy, do we need to pay attention to our mental health right now. While things are getting ready to slowly start opening up, we will still be feeling the impact from COVID-19 for months to come in so many different ways. We have to acknowledge the toll this has taken on mental health, not just physical health. COVID-19 was a collective trauma that we forced to face. We have all been forever changed by this. It's okay to ask for help in figuring all of this out.

No seriously. They aren't funny. We are all experiencing a collective trauma right now and the last thing any of us needs is judgement and shame for the ways our bodies are dealing with it. We are responding to a massive stress response right now in the best ways the body knows how. Today marks #NEDA's second annual #nodietday , which for me, is everyday. One of the most freeing things in the world is learning that you don't have to partake in dieting, the conversations, counting macros, weighing yourself, exercising to modify your body, any of it. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT. And let's be real, the last thing we all need in the middle of a pandemic is people telling us that our bodies are wrong. They aren't wrong, the culture is. There's a reason why diets have a 95% failure rate. It's not you, it's the diet. #ditchdietculture #dumpdietculture #healthateverysize #HAES #intuitiveeating #bodyliberation #bodyrespect #nondietnewyear #mentalhealthmatters #chilltherapist

Super excited about this new book to add to my collection, thanks to Full Circle Health and Wellness for hooking me up! Can't wait to share it with all the young girls I know to help them learn that all bodies are lovely, no matter their size. "Her body can smile, frown, rest or hustle! She's oh so much more than brains, bones and muscle...." "Worth is not measured by the shapes of our thighs".

We are all new at this whole social distancing, #stayhomekc, Covid-19 thing and it is stirring up so many different emotions. And all of these emotions are valid. We are all learning how to lean into our courage and vulnerability right now. Let us take this an opportunity to be kind to one another, because we are all a little scared right now. #mentalhealthmatters #edrecovery #anxietymanagement #HAES #intuitiveeating #chilltherapist

In times of unrest, it can be tempting to consume as much media as possible, either the news, social media, articles on-line etc. It might feel "responsible" to have the news streaming constantly while you work. TAKE. A. BREAK. You can stay informed while still setting boundaries regarding how often you check in. Set boundaries with your social media use, like all things it has pros and cons during this time. You don't have to be available to everyone during every moment of this crisis. Allow yourself to create space to process the events that are taking place.

#selfcaresunday It is so important for us to up our self-care game during this time. Our routines today probably look a lot different than they did this time last week. For some, taking the time to sit back, reflect and journal emotions can be very helpful. Find ways to process the emotions you're experiencing. #mentalhealthmatters #edrecovery #healthateverysize #HAES #stopthestigma

Mixed emotions can be common when adjusting to the "new normal" of a pandemic. These emotions are normal. In fact, I would be surprised if you weren't experiencing some of these emotions right now. For many of us, life as we know it has been turned upside down. Those emotions are valid AND they are important to process through with someone you trust. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need some extra support at this time. It's a lot to process and I can be here to help.
