Coronavirus Vaccine Update There are more than 180 different vaccines in various stages of development as of November 2020. The US government relieved the pharmaceutical companies of much of the financial risk which often runs hundreds of millions of dollars, by underwriting the costs of vaccine development. The swiftness in which the vaccine has been developed has sparked doubt in the process. Safety trials have had 20,000 participants, but not millions, so the question of... rare events that potentially could be seen later remains a concern. Systems in place to identify and report any potential adverse events have been in place, which is reassuring. Additionally, trial participants have included people from many diverse populations. With any new vaccine, adults are studied first and children are added later once the vaccine has passed efficacy and safety benchmarks. We expect children will be added to the trials by the end of 2020. Paul Offit, MD , director or the Vaccine Education Center and an attending physician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia reassures us the vaccines in development are being evaluated in trials in the same way and with the same thoroughness as other vaccines have been. That should give people confidence that shortcuts are not being taken with regard to safety and effectiveness evaluations. We will give parents flu shots and bill your insurance this year. The new Flublok is available for anyone 18yrs and up. If you select this option you will have 3 times the antigen as the regular flu shots, which is 30% more protection. No, you will not feel any different or have side effects. Our staff has been receiving it and they feel fine.

Sick and Well patients will not use the same doors or exam rooms and we are not bringing potential high risk patients in the office. Masks and gloves are being worn by our staff to protect everyone.

We have a Doctor in the office everyday seeing well patients in the morning and some sick in the later afternoon, however all sick are being screened by our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Sally. She is addressing all of your questions regarding illnesses and more. We are also offering Telehealth to select patients. We are encouraging well checks and immunizations at this time, espe...cially children 5 years and under. The office is open Mon-Fri from 9am to 3pm. Evenings and Saturdays continue to be temporarily closed. We are taking every precaution to sanitize our office after each patient and thorough cleanings at lunch time and end of day to keep everyone protected. Evening Clinics are being temporarily suspended effective Monday March 23. We continue to ask everyone to please call ahead if you have a sick child, so we may determine how best to proceed.

We want you to know we are taking every precaution to keep our office safe for everyone. We are screening all patients and adults and are making every effort to reduce the exposure of any illness at the office by having sick EXAM rooms and well EXAM rooms, as well as eliminating sick patient check out. We ask that only one adult comes to the office and only brings the scheduled patient(s), if possible. Additionally, anyone with a fever or cough will be asked to wear a mask. We will continue to keep you informed as changes arise.

The front entrance to the hospital will be screening everyone who comes in by taking a temperature and asking a few questions. On Saturday's patients will need to enter through the ER entrance on the West side of the building, however will not have to walk through the ER. You will be directed as to how to get to our office from there.
