We are participating again in the DEA'a National Rx Drug Take Back Program. Drop off your old or unused prescription drugs at the DPS lobby on Saturday 10/24 from 10:00am until 2:00pm. This is a great way to keep unused medication out of the wrong hands. Please, no inhalers or needles.
Marty taught many classes to our officers over the years.....
All outdoor burning should be avoided until conditions improve
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month The CDC reports that over 1 in 3 women and about 1 in 3 men in the United States experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. 1 in 3 teens experience dating violence. #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth
On Saturday, our agency hosted a Vehicle Fire Fighting Class taught by the MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute. Besides Charleston, fire fighters from Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Perryville Fire Department and Portageville Fire and Rescue participated in the training.
Our officers did firearms training with handguns this week. The officers practiced a variety of realistic scenarios while at the range.
On this day in 2001, Islamic terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Today, we honor the memory of the over 400 first responders who died in the line of duty that day. Hundreds more have died since then from respiratory issues related to the rescue efforts. Keep them, and their families, in your prayers.
Upcoming training, see below for registration information

CHEER FOR SCHOOL GEAR: On August 11-14, community members are invited to participate in a contact-free school supply drive! "Cheer for School Gear" will be held... in the Charleston High School lobby from 8:00am to 2:00pm each day, sponsored by Charleston Cheerleading. Donations can be left on the lobby table, and a secure lock box will be available for cash or check. While supplies have been generously donated by local groups (THANK YOU!), Charleston R-I School District can always stock up on items for use in the future. Coach Megan Williams says the cheerleaders are used to doing a back-to-school supply drive, but safety considerations have led to a modified version this year. She and the cheerleaders hope this is an easy way to provide some useful items for our PreK-12 students. Remember, those wishing to purchase items to donate can take advantage of Missouri Tax Free Weekend (8/8-8/9). #CharlestonStrong #InThisTogether #CC4L
