The book FARMHOUSES is on its way to publication and will be available on Chamois Day at the Grand Opening of the display Farmhouses Before the Great Flood of ...1993 Life in the Chamois and Morrison Missouri River Bottoms. The display will be in the air-conditioned Methodist Church, right next to the Townley House Museum where the Chamois Historic Preservation Commission will be hosting the annual ice cream social on the lawn. Live music will be provided by Steve Rost and Gary and Angela Rost Poolvoice, guitar, and ukuleles. The display consists of 16 movable banners with pictures, histories, and stories of many of the farmhouses that once provided shelter and the backdrop of the lives of the many farm families who once lived there. Covering about 16 miles of Missouri River Bottom, from above to Chamois to below Morrison, the project maps number locations from 0 to 121. Yes, the response was incredible. People were forthcoming with pictures, histories, and stories about Life in the Missouri River Bottoms of Chamois and Morrison, Missouri. Many thanked the Chamois Industrial Development Corporation (CIDC) and the Chamois Historic Preservation Commission (CHPC) as well as the Missouri Humanities Council for sponsoring this project. Folks enjoyed looking for pictures and sharing memories. They were pleased to be recognized. Is there going to be a book? If so, I want one! was heard repeatedly. So, the 308-page, color book has over 700 pictures with more than 80 contributors. It will be available at the display on Chamois Day for $40. It will also be for sale on Amazon for $40 plus tax, plus postage and handling (My copy didn’t qualify for Amazon Prime.). Also, we will only earn a dollar and a few coins for each book we sell on Amazon, but more if purchased directly from us. All profits will go to the CIDC for the support of the CHPC. This was a banner year for the CIDC with donations for school supplies totaling $600! All the purchases go directly for the supplies as the backpacks were a donation from a business in St Louis. Thank you to all who donated to help our students have a great start to the new year!
