Community Counseling and Assessment Services (CCAS) is closed at this time due to UMKC going to online classes and in consideration of the recommendations to practice social distancing. If you are already a client, you can still leave a message for your counselor, and we will forward it to them. If you are interested in receiving services from us, we would be happy to place you on a wait list and contact you once we re-open, which will be re-evaluated as we get closer to the summer semester in late May.
CCAS counselors showed their support for the UMKC Mental Health campaign: RoosForMentalHealth
Our Fall 2019 Cohort of Counselors at CCAS!

Supported by the JED Foundation in conjunction with Ad Council and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. For Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we're partnering with the Ad Council and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to run a national public service campaign featuring musicians Aminé, Hayley Kiyoko, Christina Perri and Lindsey Stirling to empower teens and young adults to talk about mental health with their friends, and give them practical guidance on how to do so.
Joni, Harlee, and Londonne were able to spread the word about Community Counseling and Assessment Services at the LGBTQIA Ice Cream Social!
We were given the opportunity to do some outreach at the Whole Person's Main Street Music Festival...You can tell that we might have had a little too much fun Thank you to The Whole Person for letting us participate!
Please read, such a fantastic message.
CCAS is proud to say we’ve done a ton of mental health outreach this summer! We have visited community events, local non-profits, places of work, and more. CCAS aims to increase awareness and decrease stigma of mental health and counseling through advocacy and education. Topics can include things like stress management, coping techniques, and conflict resolution, or be tailored based on the unique concerns and interests of the audience. If there’s an event or group that you think would benefit from something like this, please feel free to contact us about coming out and setting up a table or giving a presentation!
Emma Lehman is the Midwest Engagement Assistant for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) wanted to spread the word about The Kansas City, MO NEDA Walk on Saturday, September 7th from 9am-11am at Theis Park (Oak and 47th Streets, Kansas City, MO 64110). The Kansas City Walk is for raising awareness and funds for eating disorder programs, education outreach, and the support of individuals and families. They will even have some phenomenal speakers and presenters. Th...ey are in need of volunteers for before the Walk, Walker/Volunteers the morning of the Walk, and Walkers. Here is more information that may help you spread the word: You can also spread the word by announcing the event in classes, creating a Facebook event with your peers, or sharing the Walk Page (https://nedawalk.org/kansascity2019) and the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/622169048211659/)! If you want to make a Team, you will need to assign a Team Captain to register first. Then everyone else can join your team, and your fundraising efforts will be recognized as a group as well as individually. The link to register as either a Walker or Walker/Volunteer is: https://nedawalk.org/register. You are strongly encouraged to share your fundraising/team/personal page to Facebook as it is an effective way to collect donations and spread the word! Please contact me at [email protected] or 312-351-5602 about the steps you want to take to support the Walk or with any questions you might have.
We had a great time advocating for mental health awareness at the Kansas City PrideFest! We hope everyone enjoyed meeting us as much as we enjoyed meeting them, and that you'll continue to spread the word, inform others about our services, and spread acceptance, not tolerance! A huge thank you to the Midwest Rainbow Research Institute for partnering with us for this event and sharing their booth with us. Midwest Rainbow Research Institute
