Literally minutes after planting this, I counted nearly a dozen pollinators swarming this plant...at a farmhouse that had nothing flowering until a few days ago. Come to Carson's for the area's largest plant selection: do your part to help the pollinators thrive, and beautify your life at the same time!

Have you noticed white fluffy weird thingies on your plants? You may be seeing an infestation of mealybugs. Mealybugs infest all plant parts; feeder roots, root crowns, stems, twigs, leaves, flowers, and fruit. Here, mealybug infestations usually involve leaves (mostly undersides), stems, branches, and joints. They pierce and suck sap, excreting a sticky honeydew over leaves and stems that provides an excellent growth medium for a sooty-colored mold, giving the plant a dirt...y, sooty appearance. Ants are likely to be found feeding on the honeydew. According to the Missouri Botanical Gardens, they can be treated with: Acephate (Orthene), bifenthrin, and pyrethrins. Follow label directions carefully. Photo courtesy of Greenhouse magazine. Article credit to Missouri Botanical Gardens.

Keep an eye out for these pests: bagworms are striking hard now on evergreens. Typically you will see the top start browning first or in patches. The worm builds a cocoon of silk and attaches small pieces of needles and leaves to it. Feeding in the evening, they can destroy a plant in a short amount of time. Spraying the foliage can save the tree....pick off and dispose of as many of the cocoons you can. The female will lay 700 to 800 eggs in each bag...so the more you remove, the more you eliminate. We do offer spray services if you need help!
