Mixing Art with Ancient Ancestral History. I was really drawn to this symbol the last time I visited Peru. This complex ancient Incan (and pre-Incan) symbol is called a Chakana. It represents: The Upper World, The Living World and the Under World. It's four corners of the center square are said to represent wind, fire, earth and water. The Sacred Geometry of the Chakana also represents duality: night and day, man and woman... The Condor represents the Upper World, the Puma r...epresents the Living World and the Snake represents the Under World. Although I was drawn to this symbol, my memory is not that great and I tend to forget the important details all of the time! So, I figured out a more creative way for me to remember the names of the 3 existences or worlds in Quechua (the language of the Incas and civilizations prior). They are called Hanan Pacha, Kay Pacha and Ukhu Pacha (spellings can vary). Well, hopefully I've given you enough information that if it intrigues you, you will do your own research. I'm pretty excited to continue doing this with all things I find super interesting, but have trouble remembering. Have a wonderful day everyone! 18x24 Watercolor, Gouache, Acrylic and India Ink on Watercolor Paper
