Thanks, 93.9 the River, for having us on to discuss #covidvacccine! Here are a few takeaways... 1 The mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna, Inc.) teach our bodies to create COVID-19 antibodies. The mRNA in the vaccines CANNOT CHANGE YOUR DNA because it never enters the cell's nucleus where DNA is. 2 Viral vector vaccines (Johnson & Johnson) used a harmless virus and replaced the virus's surface with SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins. These proteins are what cause our immune system... to make COVID-19 antibodies. SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins CANNOT CAUSE COVID-19 without the rest of the coronavirus. 3 Go to keepcapestrong.com to get your name on all the waitlists and view local clinic information. 4 We understand vaccine hesitancy and encourage everyone to research the vaccines and their ingredients to make the best choice for you and your family. For information about COVID-19 vaccines, visit covidvaccine.mo.gov.

To ensure that all individuals wanting a COVID-19 vaccination receive one, we are creating a list of individuals that will receive notification of vaccine clinic locations, dates, and times as we move through the different Phases. Please complete the survey at the following link to be added to the list. We will follow state guidance as we move through the different Phases. Currently, we are working on Phase 1A per state guidance. It’s very important that you provide an email address to us as that will be the primary means of communication once we start moving through the subsequent Phases. Filling out the survey should take less than 5 minutes of your time. We appreciate your continued efforts to slow the spread of Coronavirus in our community. #capecountystrong https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/covidwaitlist

Are you confused about all the different #coronavirus tests? PCR and Antigen (not as accurate as PCR) tests are used to learn about current infections to control the spread. Antibody tests are used to learn if you have had the virus in the past three months. Make sure you know what type of test you are getting. The more we test the more we learn! #CapeCountyStrong

In observance of Veterans Day our offices will be closed tomorrow. Thank you to all those that have served and sacrificed for our country. We will not post COVID-19 numbers tomorrow, but will resume Thursday, November 11th.

Our offices will be closed Thursday, December 24 and December 25 for Christmas and Christmas Eve. We will not be posting a COVID update on these days. We are extremely proud of our community. Over the past few weeks, there has been a decrease in new cases and hospitalizations. The virus is still out there and we need to continue to be careful this holiday season. Together we can keep #CapeCountyStrong.

11/10 3 PM: Another record day of cases reported. With the significant influx of cases, we have experienced, there will be a slight delay in completing case investigations. Therefore, please help us and your close contacts from spreading COVID by doing the following: 1 Quarantine until you receive your test result. 2 If you are positive, isolate yourself from household members as soon as possible for 10 days.... 3 Let your close contacts know that you tested positive and ask them to quarantine for 14 days from their last exposure to you. Isolation from household members can prevent your family from getting sick. Quarantining keeps you from unknowingly spreading the virus to others and stop the chain. These are the best ways to decrease our case count and community spread. CDC defines a confirmed case as detecting SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a clinical specimen. (PCR) The CDC has three possible definitions for a probable case: 1. Meets clinical criteria and epi evidence (no + lab results) 2. Detection of specific antigen (antibody +) in a clinical specimen and meets clinical criteria or epi evidence 3. Meets vital records criteria with no + lab test. Our definition of recovered is the resolution of fever, improvement of respiratory symptoms, and 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms. *Reflective of CDC's updated guidelines. Hospitalization data will be updated on Wednesdays. Regional Hospitalization Medical Bed Availability is the percentage of inpatient bed availability for the Southeast Region. Cape County residents hospitalized represents the number of positive COVID individuals that were hospitalized due to COVID at some point during their illness. Current hospitalizations are the reported number of individuals in the COVID units at our local hospitals and include any county resident.
