While some athletes play soccer, football or basketball in their free time, sophomore Devyn Shelton participates in a very unique sport: fencing. I started th...rough a summer camp in 3rd grade and I started with one weapon (foil) and switched last year to epee. Shelton said, I wanted to do something that not a lot of people did. When I started, it was the best thing ever. It was fun, but at the same time you had to be mature (because we have swords) and I loved feeling like that. I still do. Although Shelton acknowledges that fencing with the swords is fun, the sport also demands attention to strategy. My favorite part about it is the discipline; you have to train hard and stay mentally tough. I think this is a pirate fail.

I am always constantly amazed and humbled by the support and interest in fencing and in our little fencing school. This fall, we have the amazing fortune of welcoming 23 (!!!) brand new fencing pirates to Buccaneer Blades! Not to mention several stray fencers that have found and joined us as well as the return of so many of our regular pirates. You guys are all amazing and I am so excited to share this amazing sport with all of you. Also my very heartfelt appreciation for my assistant coaches, Mary Douglas and Bryan Salley. This fall wouldn't happen without all of your combined help.

Well, here we go. BBF is opening back up today with private lessons only. There will still be no group classes or practice nights for the immediate future. As things change, I will post updates. But for now, private lessons are available!

I want to extend our congratulations to BBF's newest Dread Pirate! Nolan Auger officially joined the ranks at our last tournament in March! I can't wait until I can give you your trophy in person. But for now...

Hey all, I sent a link to the new BBF club group page for all of our fencers, but a few people have told me that the link didn't work for them. I'm not sure why... But if you're a BBF fencer or family member and would like to join the group, maybe it will work better here.

FYI: All BBF CLUB NIGHTS are CANCELLED until further notice because the Wentzville Community Club will be closed at least through the end of April.
