This has been a rough few weeks. It continues. I've lost my friend and mentor, Tom Mcginnis. He taught me how to make knives and he showed me how to teach othe...rs how to make knives. He taught me humility or at least tried. He showed me there's good in everyone if you look. Can't say how many times I was in his shop and he would just give something, "Here, you ever use any of this? Take this home. I know you can work with it." His smile, his jokes, his years of experience, his outlook on life, will all be sorely missed. God bless you Tom. Peace, now be with you. See more

Got a quick reminder, need to be wearing my leather apron.
Got a nice little addition to the hammer collection this weekend. Thanks Mark J Hopper from Goat and Hammer Forge for the straight peen hammer. He and Jessica Collins were winners on Forged in Fire for the team event.
Here's a few highlights from Blade Show 2021. Had a good time.
Just sent this one down the road. Simple high carbon blade 52100, with some very nice Mammoth ivory for the handle. Copper bolster with copper clad steel pins. I also put his nick name "Ozark" on the blade. I loved the texture of this ivory. We were both tickled.
This is my friend Norman (Buddy) Thomas's shop tour. There will be several Forged in Fire guys there. Come on out and see us.
This blade had started out as a different pattern. I ended up getting off on one end of the billet, so I went a different direction with billet and made a Turkish Twist pattern. This is a big knife. It's a 12.5" (31.75cm) blade, 17.5 (44.45cm) overall. The handle is Micarta. The S gaurd and pommel are stainless. There's a little copper spacer in there too, cause I like copper. The pommel nut is forged from a 52100 bearing. It's a take down knife and I wanted good steel for that nut. Didn't feel comfortable with a standard sheath, so this is a scabbard. Poplar wood covered in leather.
Talked myself into going to hang with my blacksmith buddies at the Carthage arts and crafts show downtown this weekend. I didn't want to go empty handed and typically arts and craft show are a little on the weak side for people willing to spend money on expensive knives. So I forged out about 8 with intentions of building some cheap quick knives. Here I am selecting mammoth Ivory for a few. My conscience: "Kinda blew that whole cheap knife thing out of the water, didn't ya hot rod?"
Almost where I want it.
Well this has turned out well. 1095 steel with a clay heat treat. Copper bolsters, followed by a little buffalo horn and iron wood handle. This had been a nice build.
