MYTH: Wearing an underwire bra is associated with the risk of breast cancer. FACT: There is no evidence to support that bras cause breast cancer. However, underwire bras are associated with breast pain or breast tenderness. Source: https://baptisthealth.net//12-common-breast-cancer-myths-/

Most breast cancers are found in women who are 50 years old or older, but breast cancer also affects younger women. About 11% of all new cases of breast cancer in the United States are found in women younger than 45 years of age. The Bring Your Brave campaign provides information about breast cancer to women younger than age 45 by sharing real stories about young women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. Find out more here: https://www.cdc.gov/canc/breast/young_women/bringyourbrave/
BCFO is thrilled to promote a first-ever fundraiser in the Ozarks. The Joyce Hernandez Memorial Car Show and Grudge Race sponsored at the Ozark Raceway Park in Rogersville. #ozarkracewaypark We are stepping out onto new ground with this one and hope car and racing enthusiasts will join us to honor her memory and help BCFO care for more families dealing with breast cancer this year! Limiting generosity to one day? Impossible in the Ozarks! In the spirit of keeping the spirit alive, here's your 2nd chance at #GivingTuesday. Please consider donating to The Rosalie O’Reilly Wooten Children’s Fund. This fund allows our community to provide for young children whose parents are facing a breast cancer diagnosis through this unprecedented year. BCFO will give a $100 Christmas gift card to each child in the home of one of our 2020 breast cancer clients. Donate by texting bcfochildren to 243-725 OR click the donation button on the Children’s Fund page at: https://www.bcfo.org//financial-assistance/childrens-fund/
Many factors over the course of a lifetime can influence your breast cancer risk. You can’t change some factors, such as getting older or your family history, but you can help lower your risk of breast cancer by taking care of your health in the following waysmaintaining a healthy weight, limit alcohol intake, exercise regularly, and if you have a family history of breast cancer or inherited changes in your BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your risk.
Myth: If you have a family history of breast cancer, you are likely to develop breast cancer, too Fact: While women who have a family history of breast cancer are in a higher risk group, most women who have breast cancer have no family history. Statistically, only about 10% of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of this disease. Source: https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org//if-you-have-a-famil/
