For this year's Black History Month, we want to share stories about African-American men and women who you may not know about. It's so important for us to have stories of hope, stories of people who changed American history that our scholars, collegians and team members can all look up to. Today we're learning about Fanny Jackson Coppin. She was one of the first Black women to be named principal of a school when she accepted the role at the the Institute for Colored Youth in... Philadelphia in 1869. Fanny was freed from slavery at the age of 12 after her aunt bought her freedom for $125. Fanny knew from a young age how important education would be for future generations of young people of color. She never gave up, and impacted the lives of hundreds as an educator and mentor. . . . #BlackHistoryMonth #boyshopegirlshope #bhgh #fannycoppin See more

There is great promise that the COVID-19 vaccine is now becoming available. At the same time, there is recognition that many have questions about the vaccine. There is skepticism about vaccines within communities of color due to a long history of medical abuses. As one of our first activities this month, Boys Hope Girls Hope is hosting a Network-wide call today as an opportunity for our team to better understand this history and to hear from medical experts who are a part of our Networkboard members Dr. Clarence Lee, Dr. Eddie Anderson, and intensive care nurse and Pittsburgh Alumna Micarah Young.
