St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church

If we wish to make any progress in the service of God we must begin every day of our life with new eagerness. St. Charles Borromeo Today is the memorial of our patron saint, St. Charles Borromeo, who used his eagerness to serve God to work on reformation of the Catholic Church. Born in Milan in 1538, Charles was appointed a cardinal at the age of 23 by his uncle, Pope Pius IV, and subsequently made the administrator of the Archdiocese of Milan (he was ordained a priest an...d bishop three years later). Charles was instrumental in the revision of the catechism during the Council of Trent, driving out corruption in the Church, and restructuring training for the clergy. He established the first seminaries in Milan and other Italian cities and colleges for lay students seeking to study theology and, like him, canon law. He is the patron saint of seminarians and catechists. Si deseamos progresar en el servicio de Dios, debemos comenzar cada día de nuestra vida con un nuevo entusiasmo. San Carlos Borromeo Hoy es el memorial de nuestro santo patrón, San Carlos Borromeo, quien usó su entusiasmo por servir a Dios para trabajar en la reforma de la Iglesia Católica. Nacido en Milán en 1538, Carlos fue nombrado cardenal a la edad de 23 años por su tío, el Papa Pío IV, y posteriormente nombrado administrador de la Arquidiócesis de Milán (fue ordenado sacerdote y obispo tres años después). Carlos fue fundamental en la revisión del catecismo durante el Concilio de Trento, expulsando la corrupción en la Iglesia y reestructurando la formación del clero. Estableció los primeros seminarios en Milán y otras ciudades italianas y colegios para estudiantes laicos que buscaban estudiar teología y, como él, derecho canónico. Today, on Election Day, let us remember our call to promote civility, love our neighbors, and build community. Hoy, en el Día de las Elecciones, se nos recuerda nuestro llamado a promover el civismo, a amar a nuestros semejantes y a construir comunidad.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. In the Catholic Church, we are called to imitate and venerate saints because of their virtuous lives, martyrdom, or their offering of life for others. The Church teaches that imitating the virtues lived by the saints brings us closer to Christ. When we ask the saints to pray for us, we ask them to join their wills with the will of God and intercede for us here on earth. This is the Communion of Saints which we profess every Sund...ay in the Creed. May their intercession help us to walk on Jesus’s path today and always. Hoy es La Solemnidad de Todos los Santos. En la Iglesia Católica, estamos llamados a imitar y a venerar a los santos por sus vidas virtuosas, por sus martirios, o por haber ofrecido su vida por los demás. La Iglesia enseña que imitar las virtudes vividas por los santos nos acerca más a Cristo. Cuando les pedimos a los santos que recen por nosotros, les estamos pidiendo que unan su voluntad con la voluntad de Dios e intercedan por nosotros aquí en la tierra. Esa es la Comunión de los Santos, la que profesamos cada domingo en el Credo. Que su intercesión nos ayude a caminar en la vía de Jesús hoy y por la eternidad.
