2020 and behind with everything. Finally, getting some "babies" weaned. First cow is a 16 year old "878" with her 15th baby and another on the way. These bull calves are sired by our home raised "cleanup" bull.
It's a beautiful day to introduce heifers to their CIDRs! A nice group of girls waiting patiently (Angela here, awaiting Bob getting things ready)
Today was the day to wean fall bull calves. Difficult choices. Emblazon 999 calf out of a Broken Bow daughter. And a SAV Bruiser grandson, sired by the bull Chad Triplett selected last year. We may have too many, but it's because they are too good to be steers!
We want everyone to know we have a good set of yearling bulls available for sale. We priced them like last year, but we know what the markets and more uncertainty than normal are doing to our world. The certainty you'll get from our bulls is quality that will outlast most. If you don't want to get out to look, I'll select for you, according to your specs. I know the bulls and their mamas. From today, prices will be reduced by 10%, and we're open for business. That's semen checked, vaccinated, delivered, and ready to work.
Check out individual close ups of these broody heifers, in search of happy new ownership.
The last warm, beautiful day was over 3 weeks ago, when we moved the bred heifers home. There's been snow and ice since then. They'll start calving within 3 weeks. Half of them are FOR SALE!
"Like a cow in clover", our fall pairs are enjoying fresh trefoil, clover, and lush fescue, where I baled really good hay in July. They're very content and doing great.
Love it when a repeat buyer calls to say he's going to need a couple of bulls this fall.......and then decides to take FIVE. Two "Badger" and three "Hickok" sons. Shown here waiting to be loaded, all exceptionally quiet and good natured. There are still 7 Angus and 5 Balancers for sale, like the Musgrave Big Sky bull below, out of a Balancer dam.
We got the cows calves weaned last Thursday. It went smoothly, calves are quiet, and they warmed right up to their first taste of feed. Bulls averaged 760 lbs., heifers 640, and steers 645.
Seven year old by an Image Maker "cleanup" bull and her heifer calf by the cleanup bull, who was the youngest and only bull left in 2016. He was out of an Image Maker daughter. Sometimes my "cleanup" bulls work as well or better than some A.I. sires.
It's high time to get calves weaned off the mature cows...but the grass is fantastic and cows and calves are doing great! Here's an "878" with his Graham bred mama and a Payweight Plus with his Extra K205 dam.
