"How does one explain Haiti? What *is* Haiti? Haiti is the eldest daughter of France and Africa. It is a place of beauty, romance, mystery, kindness, humor, selfishness, betrayal, cruelty, bloodshed, hunger and poverty. It is a closed and withdrawn society whose apartness, unlike any other in the New World, rejects its European roots.... Haiti is roosters crowing at dawn, drums in the night, coffee plucked wild from mountainsides, rum from ancient iron kettles. Haiti is green or, too often, brown, denuded mountains, headlong valleys, burning cane fields, dark sea, bright flowers, vast ruins and gingerbread houses." --- Excerpt from Written In Blood, The Story of the Haitian People by Heinl and Heinl. --- During this month of February we are going to give you glimpses of rich, beautiful, alluring, yet altogether heart-rending and ghastly moments from Haiti's history. Haiti is indescribable, but we are going to do our best to connect you with it through images and stories. We hope this series, during Black History Month, will intrigue and inform you, as well as inspire you to keep learning about the Haiti you are helping us to impact. --- #haiti #haitihistory #writteninblood #blackhistorymonth #blessingheartsinternational #haitimission

Please pray for the people of Haiti. Currently the nation is once again "peyi lok" ("country locked") due to protests and political instability. Please pray for peace and for justice, and most of all for protection for our people there.

"Chans pa vini de fwa." ("Opportunity doesn't come twice.") --- If there are any sobering realities 2020 made starkly clear it was that: Life is uncertain ... and Life is short Eleven years ago Haiti was rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, almost instantly killing over 250,000 and rendering millions homeless. --- So many then were reminded of what they, whose lives were a daily fight for survival, already knew: Life is uncertain and Life is short These are realities. Life on this earth is short, yes, and you only get one shot at it: hence, "Opportunity doesn't come twice." --- But Truth tells us something greater. --- Truth tells us there is Life beyond this life. That this fallen, broken earth isn't all there is. --- That there is a God who loves us. Who gave His Life so we could have it. That all we have to do is accept this love. --- And when His love fills us we can't help but grasp hold of the one, short opportunity He gives us to make Him known. --- Then the love we show, the grace we give, the kindness to others, the forgiveness undeserved, the gentle words turning away wrath...others can see that these are Truth. These are lasting. --- The 2010 earthquake in Haiti made many realize this, and so many came to Him, longing, desperate. --- He is still there, waiting for any who will come to Him. He longs to love you. --- #noupapjanmbliye #wewillneverforget #survivor #january12th #haiti #haitiearthquake #haitimission #blessingheartsinternational

The first time I saw this flowering tree in Haiti I called it a "Dr. Seuss" tree. Today when I looked it up to learn its proper title I learned "Dr. Seuss Tree" is actually one of its common names! Apparently I am not the only one to appreciate its other-worldliness. 2020 has been a lot like a Dr. Seuss tale...unexpected, colorful, disastrous, confusing, lesson-packed, frustrating, and just all-out weird. But in every Dr. Seuss story everything that went enormously wrong all ...throughout gets miraculously righted in the final pages. I am so glad to know that as Christ-followers this parallels our Story. That the end of this year doesn't mean the End. That all that went wrong is not un-fixable. That All That Went Wrong just points to All That Will Be Right. Someday. Someday Soon, si Dye vle (Lord-willing). *Today is the last day to give for a tax-deductible donation.
