Saint Louis University Alumni 04.01.2021

Alumni spotlight time! Today we’re featuring Quinn Peoples (A&S ’17, Grad Ed ’20), who has not one, but two degrees from SLU (did we mention he completed his graduate degree in the midst of the global pandemic?). Since graduating, Quinn has taken his knowledge of Jesuit higher education up to Milwaukee, Wis., where he is now the residence hall director at Marquette University. Here he tells us a bit about his career, the people who most influenced him at SLU and what he woul...d tell his college self that he knows now. Q: If you could have lunch today with anyone from your time at SLU, who would it be and why? A: Donna Bess Myers (Interim Associate Vice-President/Dean of Students). She is a phenomenal woman who does her work with students in mind and cares deeply for each one she interacts with. Donna was definitely a role model for me during my time there, and I know she is still doing fabulous things for the institution. Q: How do you use your SLU experience in your career today? A: Given that I have continued my work in Catholic Jesuit higher education, I use my SLU experience for a large portion of the work I do. Values such as cura personalis, serving others and being person-centered are all things I use in the daily functions of my role here at Marquette. Q: What are some of your proudest achievements since graduating from SLU? A: I graduated from SLU for the second time only a few months into the midst of a pandemic, but I do believe that the opportunity I was given here at Marquette University is one to be proud of and grateful for. Q: Who was your favorite professor at SLU? A: My favorite professor is a tie between Dr. Mark Pousson and Dr. Molly Schaller. They are great scholars and educators in their own right and have contributed so much to the student affairs professional I am today. Q: If you could tell your college self anything that you know now, what would it be? A: I would tell my college self to always remember that you are right where you are supposed to be right now, so take some time to smell the flowers and don't get too far ahead of yourself.
