Barton County Historical Society

Here's a photo of the historical society's exhibit on Missouri history for the Bicentennial Celebration on the Square last week. Can you identify any of the Missouri-themed objects in the photo?

Hello everybody! Just wanted to announce on this page that the Barton County Historical Society will be part of Lamar's celebration of the Missouri Bicentennial. On Tuesday, August 10th, the historical society will host a photo contest either outside the courthouse or inside the historical society museum, depending on the weather. Adults and children alike can submit photos that follow the theme(s) of "past, present, and future." Entries can begin to be submitted at 2pm on August 10th. The historical society will also be giving tours of the museum during the celebration.

The program from two weeks ago has been rescheduled for tomorrow, January 26. The program is about John Brown. He was a former Lamar graduate, geologist and donor of Elephant Rock State Park in south central Missouri. The program will be held at the Methodist Church at 2pm.

The quarterly program this Sunday, January 12th, has been postponed. When a new date is set it will be posted here.
